Windows 10
« on: June 01, 2015, 10:06:42 PM »
I have a question about Windows 10. I read you can get this new one for your computer. I have Windows 7 which took me quite some time to get use to. When I was reading about this new one which come out in July it say to sign up now to make sure you get it free. Should I do that & what happens if I don't like the new Windows 10 can I go back to 7. I am not that good on the computer so I don't want to do the wrong think.

As always Thank You for all your help

Mary

Hi, Mary.

You will be able to get a free upgrade to Windows 10 for one full year from July 29, 2015, so there is no hurry to sign up for the upgrade.  You'll want to read about the features of Windows 10 before making your decision.

Thank you Corrine. I now have a icon in my tray that says get Windows 10. Should I be worried about that?

Not in the least.  Just ignore the icon until you decide what you wish to do and definitely wait a couple of months after the release date so you have plenty of time to read about it so see what the features are.

Pertaining to the somewhat annoying Windows 10 tray icon, for those of us who do not want or need to be reminded about the Winows 10 upcoming operating system, there is a permanent way to remove this icon once and for all.  I read this in How to Geek. There is a Windows Update KB3035583 that you simply uninstall in the Uninstall section of the Control Panel under Windows Update and this Windows 10 reminder tray icon is gone--once and for all.

http://www.howtogeek.com/218856/how-do-you-disable-the-get-windows-10-icon-shown-in-the-notification-tray/

Some of us--many of us--are still heavily on the fence about this Windows 10 upgrade (we do have a year from July 29th) and don't want something that looks like a possible malware or whatever sitting in the startup tray.

Hopefully, this will be of some use for those who need it. :smash:

Thanks Corrine & darksufer.  I have done just what darksufer  said to do & for 3 days now everytime I start my computer for a new day that update KB3035583 has been downloaded again & the little icon is back. It is just a pain & reading I don't think I will want Windows 10 for a long time.

I just taken off that update again & hope it works this time. I am not very smart about the computer but i can follow directions. Hope this works.

Thanks guys you are always here to help the dumb one.

You are not dumb, Mary.  You just don't have a lot of computer experience.  Don't worry about the Windows icon on the taskbar if it reappears.  It cannot act on is own and will be there if you get to the point of wanting to upgrade to Windows 10.
