CCleaner Updates
« on: August 07, 2014, 06:40:56 PM »
CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool that cleans temporary and unnecessary files that accumulate on your computer over time. It can remove cookies, temporary files, Internet web sites visited/history, browser cache, recently used files, and various other things that can clog up your operating system, allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. You select the items that you want cleaned, and also specify the cookies that should not be deleted.

Product Information*: CCleaner

Installer, Portable, Slim versions:  http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds

*Although still hosted at Piriform.com, Avast acquired Piriform in July, 2017.

There have been reports that Avast installation is preselected/checked at the bottom left of the installer splash screen.

Reminder/WARNING:

It is now confirmed that avast --- which owns CCleaner --- is automatically updating CCleaner ("in general", and in particular, anytime avast installs a newer version of itself).

There are also some (isolated?) reports that CCleaner is bundling/installing avast as part of CCleaner's installation.  https://www.dell.com/community/Virus-Spyware/Updates-4-23-18-CCleaner/m-p/6070419/highlight/true#M201231

CCleaner v5.60.7307 (16 Jul 2019)

http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/builds

Either be careful to UNcheck any pre-checked offers for bundled programs/toolbars (unless you really want them)...
in particular, be very careful to look for pre-checked offers to install avast antivirus, CCleaner browser and/or Google Chrome browser ...
or else, use the  SLIM  build.

From the referenced ghacks article:

Quote
CCleaner users who upgrade the software or install it anew using the full installer may get these offers.
(Bold added)

Just one more reason to wait for the Slim Build!
