Malwarebytes Version 3 *BETA*
« on: November 14, 2016, 10:11:57 PM »
***REMINDER***

It is not advisable to run beta software on a production computer.  SpyDie defines beta this way: "Beta. Software undergoes beta testing shortly before it's released. Beta is Latin for 'still doesn't work.'"

The formalities over, the public beta has been announced for Malwarebytes version 3.  I've been running the private beta on the latest builds of Windows 10 along side Windows Defender and WinPatrol PLUS.

From Marcin's announcement at Announcing Beta of Malwarebytes 3.0, a Next-Generation Antivirus Replacement:
Quote
Our engineers have spent the last year building this product from the ground up and have combined our Anti-Malware, Anti-Exploit, Anti-Ransomware, Website Protection, and Remediation technologies all into a single product which we simply call “Malwarebytes.” And it scans your computer 3-4 times faster!

When we launch Malwarebytes 3.0, we are confident that you can finally replace your traditional antivirus, thanks to our innovative and layered approach to preventing malware infections using a healthy combination of proactive and signature-less technologies. While signatures are still effective against threats like potentially unwanted programs, the majority of our malware detection events already come from our signature-less technologies like our Anti-Exploit and Anti-Ransomware; that trend will only continue to grow. For many of you, this is something you already know, since over 50% of our customers already run Malwarebytes as their sole security software, without any third-party antivirus. But rest assured, we will continue to support compatibility if you choose to use a third-party antivirus or other security software alongside Malwarebytes 3.0.

With the combination of our Anti-Malware ($24.95), Anti-Exploit ($24.95) and Anti-Ransomware (free, beta) technologies, we will be selling Malwarebytes 3.0 at $39.99 per computer per year, 20% less than our previous products combined and 33% less than an average traditional antivirus. As we did with our change from perpetual to subscription, we will grandfather in existing customers at their current price. We are still working out the details, but I assure you we will take care of all existing customers. As always, we will be keeping malware remediation absolutely free.

If you have a good backup and wish to test the beta, please read the complete post and the FAQ in the above link.

My trial with the private beta was trouble free. But the public beta caused several problems, the constant one was not being able to shut the computer down. Had to do a power off each night. Reverted to version 2 until they get rid of the bugs.

A long change log in the announcement for Malwarebytes 3.0 Public Beta Number 2.  Also note:

Quote
1. It is a requirement that you must uninstall the first beta and reboot before installing public beta 2.

2. Due to a bug in the first beta's uninstaller, Windows Defender may turn off. It is imperative that you check the status of Windows Defender after uninstalling the first beta and make sure it's where you want it to be.

Sadly, no improvement in beta 2 for me on win 7.
Had to remove it again.

Just out of interest, what's a "non" production computer?

Since beta software could cause issues, it isn't advisable for someone not accustomed to testing software to install beta programs.  After all, if it breaks a person's only computer and they don't know how to fix it, they're stuck.  Even with non-beta programs, I recommend creating a restore point before updating/installing.

Got chya. Thanks. So, by "production computer" you meant "primary / sole computer"?

Yes, particularly if not knowledgeable about recovery or how to work around issues when testing.

This is the worst beta for Mbam so far. Seems to be a lack of coordination of the information being posted and some very poor responses. So far at least 3 moderators have got involved with my posts and none have come back with any answers.

I fall into that camp. :)

So do I even though I have version 2.2.1.1403 Premium installed running without problems. I have been following their forum and feel they are trying to push final version out ASAP as Lavasoft are beta testing Version 12. Getting too old to beta test any longer.  ;D

I feel the same way. I beta tested VIPRE years ago. Now I just want to turn on a computer and have everything work. Keeping it secure with just the normal updates is almost a full time job.
