I can only wonder who wrote this release.  While perhaps they may still be called "siblings" (since they share their origins in being based on the old StarWriter/StarOffice programs), it appears that LibreOffice has long ago eclipsed OpenOffice as "the leading Open Source office document productivity suite."

I copied/pasted the information from their own site.   I saw the "hype" on their part, and debated whether to edit-it-out.

There's no doubt that LibreOffice is continually updating/improving itself, while OpenOffice appears "struggling" to provide a minor annual update.

It's obviously marketing hype. But it surely is true too. Just like the Chevy Silverado, Ford F150, and RAM pickup trucks are all marketed as the #1 pickup - which is true. It is just that one is best at towing, one is best at fuel economy, and the other is best at braking. No doubt the Toyota Tundra and Nisson Titans can claim to be #1 too.
