As you can tell, it's my dream to be a developer, preferably for IOS :) I aspire to own my own business, however unlikely that may be  :P

I recently bought a macbook, and I'm about to embark upon a computer science degree, suppose this forum will be useful for that stuff :D

Welcome DevDream. There are many knowledgeable individuals around that will be willing to share there knowledge and help if needed.

Even with a Macbook it's a good idea to have anti-virus or Malware protection. I use Sophos free for my daughters Macbook Pro.

https://secure2.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/sophos-antivirus-for-mac-home-edition-legacy/free-download.aspx

Actually they cover PC as well.

By default MAC OS X leaves the firewall with the stealth settings turned off. Go to your settings and firewall to change it to stealth mode, it creates a little more security.

A bit of free knowledge ;)

Avira is OK. 6/10 rating

Sophos is a little better 8/10 rating

Off topic, but this is part of what we do, look for the best security options possible whether free or paid. Yes it is more of a Windows support site.

Thanks for the welcome you lot! :)

I got the impression that this is a general tech help & discussion forum ? Ah, ok, I apologise for signing up, I'd signed up cuz I thought it would be useful for programming help and tech stuff during my degree.

Corrine

We have a Programming forum at Sysnative (Yes, I'm there too.  :) )  https://www.sysnative.com/forums/programming/

Never crossed my mind - is sysnative your sister site?

DevDream

The only other forum I'm really active on is macrumours :)

Corrine

No.  It is a site started by another friend of mine.

So you know jcgriff for real?

Corrine

Forum Administrators are never "random volunteers".

I mean obviously you've contributed for a while, a lot, and shown you have knowledge & expertise, trust is gained - please don't take offence to what I said.

I mean I didn't realise some of the admins are good friends.

DevDream

I mean friends in real life
