Releasing Windows 11 Build 26100.3902 (KB5055627) to Insiders in the Release Preview Channel on Windows 11, version 24H2 (Build 26100).Gradual rolloutThe following features and improvements might not be available to all users because they will roll out gradually. Text bolded in brackets indicate the area of the change being documented.
      • [Recall (preview)1] New! You work across so many apps, sites, and documents it can be hard to remember where you saw something you want to get back to. Recall (preview)* saves you time by offering an entirely new way to search for things you've seen or done on your PC securely. With the AI capabilities of Copilot+ PCs, it's now possible to quickly find and get back to any app, website, image, or document just by describing its content. To use Recall, you will need to opt-in to saving snapshots, which are images of your activity, and enroll in Windows Hello to confirm your presence so only you can access your snapshots. You are always in control of what snapshots are saved and can pause saving snapshots at any time. As you use your Copilot+ PC throughout the day working on documents or presentations, taking video calls, and context switching across activities, Recall will take regular snapshots and help you find things faster and easier. When you need to find or get back to something you've done previously, open Recall and authenticate with Windows Hello. When you've found what you were looking for, you can reopen the application, website, or document, or use Click to Do to act on any image or text in the snapshot you found. You can learn more about using Recall (preview) here.
      • [Click to Do (preview)2] New! Click to Do (preview) makes it easier than ever to take immediate action on whatever catches your eye on-screen on your Copilot+ PC, saving you time by helping complete tasks inline, and quickly getting you to the app that can best complete the job for you. For example, select an image using Click to Do to take actions like erasing objects using the Photos app or remove the background using Paint. To use Click to Do, simply press WIN key + mouse-click, WIN + Q, through the Snipping Tool menu and print screen, or searching "Click to Do" in the search box on the Windows taskbar. You can learn more about using Click to Do (Preview) here.
      • [Improved Windows Search3]
        • New! Finding your documents, photos, and settings across Windows 11 is easier on Copilot+ PCs with improved Windows Search, powered by semantic indexing models along with traditional lexical indexing. Whether it's searching in File Explorer, in the Windows Search on your taskbar, or in Settings – just type what's on your mind to find it on your Copilot+ PC. You no longer need to remember file names, exact words in file content, or settings names. Searching for settings like "change my theme" will work within the Settings app for now. Thanks to the power of the 40+ TOPS NPU onboard Copilot+ PCs, these search improvements work even when you're not connected to the internet. You can learn more about semantic search on Copilot+ PCs here. Now available on AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs.
        • New! Locating your photos stored and saved in the cloud is getting simpler on Copilot+ PCs You can use your own words in the search box at the upper-right corner of File Explorer like "summer picnics". In addition to photos stored locally on your Copilot+ PC, photos from the cloud will now show up in the search results together. Exact matches for your keywords within the text of your cloud files will also show in the search results. You can try this experience out today with your personal OneDrive when signed in with your Microsoft account and connected to the internet. Now available on AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs.
      • [Narrator] New! Keep track of what Narrator has spoken and access it for quick reference. With speech recap, you can quickly access spoken content, follow along with live transcription, and copy what Narrator last said—all with simple keyboard shortcuts.
      • [Phone Link] New! You can do even more with your Windows PC and your mobile devices with direct access to cross-device features from the Start menu. For example, you can make phone calls, send SMS messages, access your photos, or share content between your mobile devices and PC.
      • [Widgets] New! Web developers can use their existing content to create interactive widgets that can be added to multiple widgets surfaces. For more information, click here.
      • [File Explorer]
        • New! Pivot-based curated views on File Explorer Home that support ease of access of Microsoft 365 content on Windows. Be more productive and get highly relevant content at your fingertips on File Explorer Home.
        • Fixed: As part of our ongoing commitment to improving File Explorer accessibility, this release includes increased support for the text scaling (Settings > Accessibility > Text size) across File Explorer, File Open/Save dialogs and the copy dialogs.
        • Fixed: Improved the performance of extracting zipped, particularly in the case where you're unzipping a large number of small files.

      • [Windows Studio Effects] New! The Studio Effects automatic framing filter will be enabled when the camera is used for the first time if your PC supports Studio Effects.
      • [Start]
        • Fixed: If you have multiple pages of apps pinned to Start menu, you cannot use touch to switch pages.
        • Fixed: The "Sign out" and "More options" buttons in the Start menu account manager might not be visible with increased text size.

      • [Taskbar]
        • Fixed: The underlines under app icons in the taskbar might remain and stay visible even if the app has been closed.
        • Fixed: If you use the arrow keys after pressing the Windows key plus T, the arrows move in the wrong direction for Arabic and Hebrew display languages.

      • [Desktop icons] The logic for apps pinned to the desktop has been updated, so that packaged apps no longer show an accent colored backplate. For example, if you were to drag and drop Snipping Tool from the apps list in Start to the desktop the icons should be bigger and easier to see now.
      • [Display] Fixed: You may need to press the WIN + P keyboard shortcut twice to switch topologies.
      • [ExtFloodFill] Fixed: There is an uncommon issue with ExtFloodFill where a horizontal line might appear in the incorrect location in Win32 applications.
      • [Graphics]
        • Fixed: External graphics cards connected over Thunderbolt might unexpectedly not be discoverable in some cases.

      • [Hyper-V Manager] Fixed: Hyper-V Manager unexpectedly shows 0% CPU usage for VMs.

Copilot on Windows: Vision and file search begin rolling out to Windows Insiders

An update for the Microsoft Copilot app on Windows via the Microsoft Store which introduces the following changes and improvements is beginning to roll out:

File search: You can now find, open and ask questions about the contents of a file on your device from the Copilot on Windows app. You can adjust your permissions for what Copilot can access, retrieve, or read in Copilot Settings under Permission settings. File search supports most file types and can read .docx, .xlsx, .pptx, .txt, .pdf, .json files. Ask Copilot questions like "Can you find my resume", "Open the trip planning doc I was working on last week", or "Look at my budget file and tell me how much I spent on dining last month".

Copilot Vision on Windows: You can share any browser or app window with Copilot. Copilot can then help analyze, offer insights, or answer your questions, coaching you through it aloud. To get started click the glasses icon in your composer, select which browser window or app you want to share, and ask Copilot to help with whatever you're working on. To stop sharing, press 'Stop' or 'X' in the composer.

This Copilot app update (version 1.25034.133.0 and higher) is beginning to roll out across all Insider Channels via the Microsoft Store. Copilot Vision on Windows will first roll out to Insiders in the U.S., and file search will roll out to Insiders worldwide. The above-mentioned features are gradually rolling out so not all Insiders will get the update right away. We are excited to be previewing improvements with our Insiders to ensure all our customers have a great Copilot experience on Windows.

FEEDBACK: Please provide feedback directly within the Copilot app by clicking on your profile icon and choosing "Give feedback".

Security Alerts & Briefings / Pale Moon Version 33.7.0 Relea...
Last post by Corrine - April 08, 2025, 11:54:18 AM
Pale Moon has been updated to version 33.7.0.  This is a development, bugfix and security update.

Changes/fixes:

  • Implemented CSS two-location color stop logic. This allows for two-location color stops (`color x% y%`) in gradients, which is shorthand for `color x%, color y%` where both colors are equal.
  • Our minimum GCC version requirement to build is now 9.1.
  • Improved channel handling when CSP blocks network redirects.
  • Implemented several fixes for CORS preflight requests.
  • Added explicit whitelisting from CSP content loading of javascript: scheme URLs.
  • Updated the ffvpx library to 6.0.1, this time preventing video color range regressions. An update to 6.0 was previously backed out in 33.5.0.
  • Updated the JPEG-XL library to 0.11.1 to pick up several fixes and improve decoding compatibility of jxl files.
  • Updated the SQLite library to 3.49.1.
  • Fixed a spec compliance issue with DOMRect and DOMQuad returning 0 if NaN was present. We now return NaN in that case, per spec.
  • Fixed a spec compliance issue with NTLM authentication. We now compute Channel Binding Hashes using the certificate signature's hash algorithm, per spec.
Note that particularly weak algorithms are not used and SHA256 will be used as a minimum, instead, in those cases.
  • Fixed a buildability issue on Mac with XCode 16.3.
  • Added some additional safety checking to SharedArrayBuffers.
  • Added some additional safety checking to XSLT compilation and transformation.
  • Windows only: Added a preference widget.windows.follow_shortcuts_on_file_open to control how Windows File Open dialogs handle shortcut links. See implementation notes.
  • Security bugs addressed: CVE-2025-3028 (DiD) and CVE-2025-3033 (see implementation notes).

Implementation notes:

Windows only: This version introduces a new (numeric) preference to control how the "Open File" dialogs handle shortcut links in the file system.
A low-severity security issue (CVE-2025-3033) was found that in some specific circumstances could allow a malicious actor to convince a user to upload an unintended file from their file system with a specially-crafted shortcut file. To mitigate this, a special flag can be passed to File Open dialogs which prevent the dialogs from parsing shortcut links and navigating to target files and folders based on the shortcut file contents. This can be controlled with the newly-added preference. Since this flag, when set, also prevents users from navigating "through" shortcuts to folders (from e.g. the desktop) and would instead open/attach/upload the shortcut file itself, this would be disruptive to many users' workflows. Considering the major usability drawback and the low-severity nature of the security issue (which would require considerable social engineering to pull off), Pale Moon, at least for the time being or until a better solution is found, will continue allowing the following of shortcuts and navigating through them to target folders and files in File Open dialogs. If you are overly cautious, you may want to set this preference to the value 0 which always prevents shortcut parsing and following. For everyone else, just a warning to please stay safe and never follow strange sequences of instructions from strangers that you don't exactly know what they do (and never take their explanations at face value).

Notes:  *DiD This means that a fix is "Defense-in-Depth": It is a fix that does not apply to a (potentially) actively exploitable vulnerability in Pale Moon, but prevents future vulnerabilities caused by the same code, e.g. when surrounding code changes, exposing the problem, or when new attack vectors are discovered.
Pale Moon includes both 32- and 64-bit versions for Windows: Pale Moon for Windows downloads.

Update: To get the update now, select "Help" from the Pale Moon menu at the upper left of the browser window. Select About Pale Moon > Check for Updates.

This release is for Windows Insiders on Windows 11, version 23H2Note: Windows 11, version 24H2 is available as an optional upgrade for Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel.

Changes in Beta Channel builds and updates are documented in two buckets: new features, improvements, and fixes that are being gradually rolled out for Insiders who have turned on the toggle to get the latest updates as they are available (via Settings > Windows Update*) and then new features, improvements, and fixes rolling out to everyone in the Beta Channel. For more information, see the Reminders section in the linked blog post.

Changes and Improvements gradually being rolled out to the Beta Channel with toggle on

[General]
  • This update includes a small set of general improvements and fixes that improve the overall experience for Insiders running this build on their PCs.
[File Explorer]
  • We're starting to roll out the change again so that when you launch File Explorer folders from outside of File Explorer (for example, from an app or from the desktop), by default they will now open in a new tab if you have an existing File Explorer window open (which we temporarily disabled to address some issues). As a reminder – if you'd prefer that they continue opening in a new window, you can change this in File Explorer folder options, under General > Browse Folders.
  • The change that introduced labels on unlabeled actions such as cut, copy, paste, rename, share, and delete in the File Explorer context menu that began rolling out in Build 22635.4660 has been disabled. Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel can upgrade to Windows 11, version 24H2 flights to get this change back.

Fixes gradually being rolled out to the Beta Channel with toggle on

[Start menu]
  • Fixed an issue where when using increased text size, the sign out and more options buttons may not be visible in the Start menu account manager.
[File Explorer]
  • Fixed an issue where was causing File Explorer to crash in some cases when copying or renaming files in recent builds.
[Input]
  • Fixed an issue where if you typed in some apps, they might stop working after disconnecting from a remote desktop session.

Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26200.5518 (Dev Channel)

New features gradually being rolled out to the Dev Channel with toggle on

Taskbar icon scaling
We are starting to roll out taskbar icon scaling to Windows Insiders – an improvement to the Windows taskbar that ensures that you have quick access to more of your favorite apps, even when your taskbar is full. With taskbar icon scaling, when your taskbar starts to get crowded with pinned or open apps, the icons will automatically scale down to a smaller size. This means you can keep more apps visible and accessible without the need to dive into a secondary menu. It's all about making your workflow smoother and more efficient.

We understand that everyone has their own preferences, so we've included settings to tailor this feature to your liking. You can choose when Windows will show smaller taskbar buttons:
  • When taskbar is full: By default, taskbar icons will automatically turn smaller when the taskbar is full. This helps you maintain access to more apps without any extra effort.
  • Never: For users who prefer their icons to remain the same size as before, regardless of how many apps are open, there's an option to prevent the icons from scaling down.
  • Always: If you love the look of smaller icons and want them to stay that way all the time, you can set your taskbar icons to always be small.
To customize your taskbar icon scaling settings, simply right-click an empty region of your taskbar and select "Taskbar settings", expand "Taskbar behaviors" section, and make your selection for the setting "Show smaller taskbar buttons".

As always, we value your feedback, so let us know what you think!

FEEDBACK: Please file feedback in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Desktop Environment > Taskbar.

Making sharing files in Windows easier
Sharing files in Windows is getting a lot easier and quicker with our new drag tray feature. When you start dragging a local file with mouse (or touch) from File Explorer or your desktop, a handy tray appears at the very top of your screen allowing you to drop the file into one of the displayed apps or choose "More..."  to open the Windows share window.

New drag tray UI that appears at the top of your screen when dragging a local file from File Explorer or your desktop.

FEEDBACK: Please file feedback in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Files, Folders, and Online Storage > File sharing.

Announcing the availability of the test remediation package for quick machine recovery (QMR)
As a follow up to last week's announcement of quick machine recovery, we are thrilled to announce that the test remediation package is now available for Windows Insiders to experience the full capabilities of QMR in action. We encourage Windows Insiders to test it today. The remediation package "Quick machine recovery update for Windows 11" will be automatically installed by QMR when "test mode" is activated.  To verify the quick machine recovery remediation is installed, go to Settings > Windows Update > Update history. The remediation should be listed under Quality updates. Please note that the ability to see the remediation package in your Windows Update history is gradually rolling out in the Beta Channel so not everyone will see this listed there right away. To provide feedback, simply open the Feedback Hub app on your Windows device, navigate to Recovery and Uninstall > Quick Machine Recovery, and share your insights. Stay tuned for further updates and enhancements as we continue to improve the resilience and reliability of Windows.
