I was offered this optional windows 10 quality update:

2025-04 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5055612)

It seems to be a good idea except for maybe blocking drivers?

Improvements

Important: Use EKB KB5015684 to update to Windows 10, version 22H2.

[Graphics] Fix: The check for GPU paravirtualization was case-sensitive in Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (WSL2). This issue might potentially cause GPU paravirtualization support to fail.
[OS Security] Updates to the Windows Kernel Vulnerable Driver Blocklist (DriverSiPolicy.p7b). Additions have been made to blocklist drivers with security vulnerabilities that have been used in Bring Your Own Vulnerable Driver (BYOVD) attacks.

Should I install or no?

Create a system restore point and then install it, particularly since it includes a security update.  You can then use System Restore to remove the update.

Reminder, Windows 10 end of life date is rapidly approaching: October 14, 2025.

Should I install this separately from the regular monthly update?

The regular monthly update was over 2 weeks ago and certainly should have been installed by now.  Most likely, when you install that, you'll also get this update.

I just got this update 2 days ago.  So maybe it is an addition to the monthly one.   It is a cumulative update preview for NET framework.

I think I will do the installations separately, in case I have to reverse.

All installed and everything seems fine.   The update that was pending was an out-of-band fix for some problem in the April 8 update.  (Which I did install promptly. )

I found this further information on the optional preview update:

Microsoft released an optional cumulative (preview) update for Windows 10 version 22H2 (KB5055612) on April 22, 2025. This update includes several corrections that are intended to be tested and then generally rolled out as fixes in the following month. The preview update addresses issues such as a case-sensitive check for GPU paravirtualization in Windows Subsystem for Linux 2 (WSL2), updates to the Windows Kernel Vulnerable Driver Blocklist, and a known issue with the System Guard Runtime Monitor Broker service that might display an error related to SgrmBroker.exe on devices that have installed January 2025 updates or later.

This update is available for manual download and installation by default. It is part of Microsoft's ongoing efforts to improve the security and stability of Windows 10, as support for this version is set to end in October 2025.

So apparently, by installing the optional update, I'm giving microsoft information before they release the inband fixes.
