I was corrected that in fact this is old news on another forum. MS started the current program in late 2014. I have two University students attending different Universities and they hadn't heard anything about this previously, from the schools. A matter of fact they still haven't received anything about it.

If you have a student in school, it's worth looking at. I know Universities assign email accounts, that's what it takes to start the process. I don't have any in public school, so are students getting assigned a email now?

I would guess most schools are just now implementing this, with the start of a new school year in the U.S.

There were some other similar programs, that go back to 2012.
It may be old news, but with schools now, in the US starting in full session, it doesn't hurt to talk about it.

Wow, that's very interesting. First time I've heard about this.

Just to clarify, all you need is a university e-mail account "outside" the United States? If so, very cool. Can I use for both my Windows 7 Sony laptop AND my MacBook Pro? (note: I work for many years as an administrator in a university outside the US)

The University has to participate, in the MS Office 365 program. If you don't know for sure enter your University email address. If they do participate, you will receive an email from MS, with further instructions. If the University doesn't participate, they will tell you that as well.
