Anyone of your family/close friends planning on a new computer?  And maybe new to going online?

In the past 2 years I've had 4 households in my family connect to the internet for the first time, and I'd wished I'd known more or did more to help the initial process.  All got infected; cleaned up; have better "layers" of tools for protection; and *seem* to be surfing safer. <that's an abbreviated version  >

Last year I bookmarked a page at Sans website titled: The Family System Administrator, which has the following opening paragraph

"if your parents got a new computer for Christmas, what would you tell them to do?"  The responses have been great!  Rather than trying to summarize, we decided to just print them all in the order they were received."

The total of the responses, which were posted at Christmas 2005, seem to cover a variety of strategies/suggestions...some quite practical and some humorous.

Now at Christmas time 2006, I've re-reviewed this Sans thread and still find it an interesting, sometimes entertaining, list of ideas for someone w/ family or friends that will be getting a new computer.

I thought I'd post the link in case you missed seeing it last year.
