I've been updating 1.06r1 Personal without a problem all along, but today, get an error message, "The downloaded definitions file cound not be read, please update again." Is there a setting I have to adjust to get the July 21 definitions updates?

Hi, dan2.  Welcome to LandzDown Forum.

Most frequently when this happens it is because the ISP is using cached pages.  The easiest solution then is to go to http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/ and download the zip file.

Please let us know if you still have problems, as there are other options we can try too.

Thanks for the info. As it turns out, just moments after I posted my message, the new definitions loaded. Thanks for your prompt reply.

I had this problem on another computer.  I got around it by deleting the referencefile manually, then chosing WebUpdate in Ad-Aware.

Hi all,
This happens all the time (on this box) if CCleaner is used with the check mark in Adaware SE on the "Application tab > Utilities.  It deletes the def.ref.old file.

Since the release of Build 1.06r1, it seems that there has been a significant increase in the number of people having problems getting the updates.  Many people have report that the update starts at 5% and stalls, never going further.  Most generally have to end task.  Others have been able to "cancel" the update, restart it and it seems to work -- although it may take 2 or 3 tries.

Sadly, many people experiencing this problem think there is a problem with their computer.  There are just too many people experiencing this for that to be the case.

Hi, TROOPCARRIER!  Welcome!  You're not the only one new to this forum -- its only been public for a few weeks.  :)

I must say, for someone not to sharp on PC's to do a regedit, I'd say you're doing just fine.

As to the updates, please make sure that your firewall is allowing Ad-Aware access to the internet.

Next, you could try deselecting the "surpress webubdate confirmation dialogues" option in tweak> webupdate settings.

Also, check the WebUpdate configuration to ensure that you didn't inadvertently click on "Use HTTP Proxy". If so, deselect that option and try again.

If that doesn't work, close Ad-Aware, go to C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE Personal and delete defs.ref. Launch Ad-Aware again, ignoring the error message.  Try the WebUpdate again.

If all else fails, please go to http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/ and download the zip file, upgrade the Definition Files and run a Full System scan.

Please let us know how you make out.  Thanks!

TROOPCARRIER,

The latest definitions file may be downloaded from:

http://download.lavasoft.de.edgesuite.net/public/defs.zip

They come in a compressed archive file, just uncompress to the main Lavasoft\Ad Aware SE directory and overwrite the currently installed defs.ref file

Any luck TROOPCARRIER?
Once you get the first sucessful download, the rest should go smoothly.
(Many have had this problem, myself included)

This happened to me as well. It started and stalled at 5%, and I had to end task. I tried 3 times to update all with the same result. I then logged off from the internet, reconnected and ran WebUpdate again, and it worked just fine then.  :D
