Occasionally, there will be two instances of WinPatrol running.  This is generally because there are multiple copies of WinPatrol in the start up list. It is also possible that WinPatrolEx.exe was added to the start up list.  To solve this problem that only seems to have occurred in newer versions of WinPatrol, Bill Pytlovany implemented a quick fix.

  • Double-click the Scotty icon in the system tray to launch the main WinPatrol tabbed Interface.
  • Click the Options tab.
  • Go to the check-box reading, "Automatically run WinPatrol when computer starts"
  • Click the box in front of that message to deselect the option to "Automatically run WinPatrol when computer starts".
  • Click the box again to re-select the option to "Automatically run WinPatrol when computer starts".

Deselecting and reselecting the option to "Automatically run WinPatrol when computer starts" will remove the multiple copies of WinPatrol in the start up list and initialize the correct WinPatrol start up setting.

Having two instances of WinPatrol running has also occurred when, for some strange reason, when updating WinPatrol, the previous version remained behind in Add/Remove Programs.  That problem was easily resolved by uninstalling the older version.
