I am beginning to wonder if Windows Defender Beta2 is worth all this effort. I do not understand why on my computer, it will not update automatically or manually like other software. (Ad-aware SE). It is set to check updates automatically, I think. My pc is a P4 with Microsoft XP SP2, 80 Gig HDD, 512 MB Ram and nVidia FX5200 graphics card. Everytime there is a signature update, I have to go 'c:\Program Files\Windows Defender and right click on AS_Sigs.MSI and select Uninstall. And then the program will accept the new signatures. All the other methods mentioned here do not work. Why must I go through the above procedure everytime there are new signatures out? Any suggestion for a cure for this will be greatly appreciated, or alternatively any other free similar program with realtime monitoring. (not Spybot S&D) Thank you in advance.  :rose:  :help:  :flowers:

Not that I can go into great detail, but we're aware of this problem and we're looking at different ways to address it.  I'm having a problem with updating also:  my laptop installs the update, but it doesn't realize it installed.  So, I'm continually prompted from Automatic Updates to update my definitions to a version I already have.  Annoying.  I wish I had a better answer than, "Hang on," but that's what I have.

Other than this update issue, I hope the beta is running well.  Even if a different product seems like a better option, I appreciate the time you took to try ours.

Thanks,

Aaron

thanks for the info arron !!!

i've got a few people that have the same trouble, and if help is on the way great !!!!
i'm still on a dialup and the downloads for the updates are pretty big, but out side of that i think it is a great product and worth the effort !!!! and the scan times are a lot less than the old ms anti-spyware ! and it is in my price catagory too !

Thanks for your replies Guys. Well, if there is light at the end of the tunnel, I will persevere a little bit longer. Either than the update thing, the product seems to be functioning well. Am no expert though. Thanks.  :flowers:
