Hi, Mary Ann.

It was a very smart decision you made.  Well done!

First things first, if your Facebook profile is set to Public instead of Friends, I advise you to make that change first. To change your Facebook settings to private, follow these steps:
  • Click on the downward arrow in the top-right corner of Facebook, and then select Settings & Privacy > Settings.
  • Click "Privacy" in the sidebar.
  • Scroll down to the "How people can find and contact you" section.
  • Change "Who can see your friends list" to a setting that you're more comfortable with1.Alternatively, you can use Facebook's Privacy menu to limit who can see your posts, profile, and more. Setting every option to "Only Me" will make your Facebook profile completely private2. On mobile, tap the Menu icon in the Facebook app, go to Settings & privacy, then Settings, and adjust your profile details and privacy settings.

Next, my primary browser is Microsoft Edge and checking the Facebook page, I see where AdGuard AdBlocker has blocked 11 ads. You can get it for your browsers as follows:

If you're still having issues with ads, you can get Adblock Plus for your browsers as follows:

I hope that helps.

I downloaded Adblock and Adblock plus and got that intrusive ad again when I was on FB. Apparently I didnt set my security and privacy settings correctly. I found it very confusing once I started to set up the security and privacy. Do you have any suggestions as to the settings I should use.

Hi, Mary Ann.

The revised process for managing security and privacy on FB is definitely very confusing.  What I have found very useful in managing what I see in FB is with F.B.Purity. Note that in the User Guide FBP hides advertisements and sponsored posts:

QuoteFBP Hides all Adverts and Sponsored posts

By Default F.B. Purity hides all ads on facebook, so you dont need to change any settings to enable this. This option also hides the "Similar to" box that shows up when you like a post from a "fan page" in the newsfeed, or the "More like" box that pops up when you click on an external link in the newsfeed, it also hides the "Page Stories You May Like" box. If you want to turn the ad blocking feature off, you can "untick" the hide "Sponsored Box / Posts" option.

Thanks again. I'll look into it.
