Linux Help, News and Information / SNF Timing Out
Last post by Corrine - November 13, 2022, 11:01:50 PM
When I refreshed the tab at SNF, it came up with ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT. I closed the tab and opened a new one but the same thing happened again.  I've notified Will.

These are the "official" Windows 11, version 22H2 known issues and notifications.  Also of interest is 9 Most Common Windows 11 22H2 Issues and How to Fix Them.  Personally, I have been running the Beta Builds and have not had any issues whatsoever.

I just got offered it today.  The info I found said changes were pretty basic and problems were not anticipated.   I'm glad to see your post.  I will wait awhile before installing.

pastywhitegurl,

The specs for that model, Dell Optiplex 755, have no mention of a pre-installed wi-fi adapter, and for a model that old it would be highly unlikely that it would have.

But you should be good to go, and go ahead, do something "just for kicks" if you feel like it!  (Smile)

Oh sorry... its a Dell Optiplex 755.  (I shall update my info to add that).

Interesting about the cell phone method.  Might try it just for kicks.

pastywhitegurl,

I do not see the computer make and model in your link.  But no matter, since you did not find something that says "Adapter" in your "Network adapters" you most likely do not have built-in wi-fi on that computer.  If you go to the Lenovo laptop and look you will probably find an adapter listed.  The "Controller" thing is something else.

If you have a smart phone and you might care to experiment here is a link to a web page that promises to give you an option for getting wi-fi on your computer without an adapter:  " https://www.lifewire.com/connect-desktop-to-wifi-without-an-adapter-5180050 ".

Also per amazon it appears that you can get a simple usb wi-fi adapter for around $15--$25, if you wish.

My computer specs are listed in my signature link.

I don't have any wi-fi adapters listed in the network adapters list.

I do have this:
Realtek PCle GBE Family Controller

I'm assuming its something to do with the wired connection

So, apparently I don't have wi-fi capability.  But its ok, since I'm wired anyway, even on the new google fiber installation with the "wi-fi spots".
