Oracle released the scheduled security update for its Java SE Runtime Environment software.  This Critical Patch Update contains five (5) new security patches for Oracle Java SE.  Four of these vulnerabilities may be remotely exploitable without authentication, i.e., may be exploited over a network without requiring user credentials.

Update:  If Java is still installed on your computer, it is recommended that this update be applied as soon as possible due to the threat posed by a successful attack.

Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22621.746 and 22623.746

Build 22623.746 = New features rolling out.
Build 22621.746 = New features off by default.

REMINDER: Insiders who were previously on Build 22622 will automatically get moved to Build 22623 via an enablement package. The enablement package artificially increments the build number for the update with new features getting rolled out and turned on to make it easier to differentiate from devices with the update with features off by default. This approach is being used for the Beta Channel only and is not indicative of any changes or plans for final feature rollouts.

Insiders who landed in the group with new features turned off by default (Build 22621.xxxx) can check for updates and choose to install the update that will have features rolling out (Build 22623.xxx).

Changes and Improvements in Build 22623.746

[System Tray]
  • This build includes preliminary support to rearrange System Tray icons for Insiders who have the System Tray updates that began rolling out with Build 22623.730. Further improvements for this experience are coming soon. As a reminder, these System Tray updates are still rolling out and are not available to all Insiders just yet. If your PC does not have these changes, your System Tray experience will remain the same as before.

Fixes in Build 22623.746

[Tablet-optimized taskbar]
NOTE: These fixes will only show if tablet-optimized taskbar is enabled on your device. Tablet-optimized taskbar is still rolling out to Windows Insiders and not yet available for everyone.

  • Fixed an issue where the gesture to slide the Start menu open from the bottom of the screen using touch might stop following your finger.

[System Tray Updates]
NOTE: These fixes will only show if tablet-optimized taskbar with System Tray updates is enabled on your device. Tablet-optimized taskbar and System Tray is still rolling out to Windows Insiders and not yet available for everyone.

  • Fixed an issue for Insiders with "automatically hide the taskbar" enabled, where right-clicking app icons in the system tray was unexpectedly making the taskbar dismiss.

Fixes for BOTH Build 22621.746 & Build 22623.746

  • We enabled the ms-appinstaller Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) to work for the DesktopAppInstaller.
  • We fixed an issue that affects the Windows Search service. Indexing progress is slow when you use the service.

Updated Photos app for Windows 11 with iCloud Photos now rolling out to Windows Insiders

QuoteDuring today's event showcasing what's next for Microsoft Surface, we showed that we're bringing iCloud Photos integration directly to the updated Photos app which began rolling out to Windows Insiders a few weeks ago. We are beginning to roll out an update to the Photos app today (version 2022.31100.9001.0) to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel with this new integration.

The Microsoft Photos app allows you to view, organize, and share photos from your PC and OneDrive, and with this update, you'll now be able to add and access your iCloud Photos directly from within the app as well. Your iCloud Photos will appear alongside photos from other sources in the beautifully redesigned "All Photos" gallery view, as well as on a dedicated page you can access from the side navigation pane.

To get started, follow the quick setup steps in the Photos app! You'll need to sign into the iCloud for Windows app on your PC and ensure that "Photos" are selected.

FEEDBACK: Please file feedback in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Apps > Photos.

Releasing Windows 11 Build 22621.675 to the Release Preview Channel

This update enables the following new features that began rolling out to Insiders in Release Preview on Windows 11, version 22H2, last week:

  • New! We enhance File Explorer. It now includes tabs to help you organize your File Explorer sessions like you do in Microsoft Edge. On the new File Explorer homepage, you can pin important files for quick and easy access. Using the power of Microsoft OneDrive, you can view your colleagues' actions on your shared files. We also provide personalized suggestions based on your Microsoft 365 account.
  • New! We add a feature called Suggested Actions for items that you copy. This is available for customers in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. For example, when you copy phone numbers or future dates, we provide suggestions, such as make a call with Teams or Skype or add an event in the Calendar app.
  • New! We add a taskbar overflow menu. The taskbar will offer an entry point to a menu that shows you all your overflowed apps in one space.
  • New! You can now share to more devices. You can discover and share to more devices, including desktops, using a nearby sharing.
