Hi,

I just stumbled over a few tips to Win 10. Just how to fix some common things in Win 10. I hope you can use them.

Thank you, Frands. Those tips look very helpful.

Let's see what we can do to collect more good tips and add them here.

A couple of my favorites:

Keyboard shortcuts -- This is something I need to spend a bit of time with because there are some new keyboard shortcuts for Windows 10.  The list can also be downloaded from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48716

Windows 10 and privacy -- There has been so much press about Windows 10 privacy.  See the Microsoft FAQ on what data is collected, where it is stored, etc.

Windows Explorer File Explorer -- a new name and more flexible than ever before.  Here's a couple tutorials covering File Explorer features:

How To View, Pin & Unpin Items To The Quick Access Section Of File Explorer In Windows 10 -- I really like this and have pinned a few locations that I find I access frequently.

How To Use File Explorer To Share Files & Folders In Windows 8.1 & 10 -- While you're experimenting with this, also click on the View tab.  If you're like me, you will want to check the box to show File name extensions.

How to fix:
Windows 10 is trying to install some drivers on some pc's that is not necessary. F.ex you may see this message after you have upgraded to Win 10.
If you usually don't have AMD drivers on your computer then just uninstall AMD Catalyst Drivers and Control Center

Error Message:
Warning catalyst control center is not supported by the driver version of your enabled graphics adapter. please update your AMD graphics driver, or enable your AMD adapter using using the display manager.

What is Catalyst Control Center?:

There is a poster elsewhere who has used those two articles (MS tool in last) to try and block a driver update. It is the wrong driver for his computer.
It installed once, he rolled back, I think, and it continues to download and is waiting to be installed.

If you find any other methods of blocking a bad driver update, please post them. Thanks.

I'll be looking out for other solutions, and I'll post it as soon as possible if I find it ;)

Introduction to Windows 10 servicing (Windows)
QuoteThis article describes the new servicing options available in Windows 10, and how they enable enterprises to keep their devices current with the latest feature upgrades. It also covers related topics, such as how enterprises can make better use of Windows Update, and what the new servicing options mean for support lifecycles.

Note

Several of the figures in this article show multiple feature upgrades of Windows being released by Microsoft over time. Be aware that these figures were created with dates that were chosen for illustrative clarity, not for release roadmap accuracy, and should not be used for planning purposes.

Prevent Automatic Device Driver Software Updates In Windows 10:

http://www.kapilarya.com/prevent-automatic-device-driver-software-updates-windows-10

Thank you Frands, very useful info.
Having had some problems in the past, while on Vista, after updating device driver software, I do not like updating them. I tend to follow: "If it isn't broken, do not fix".

Following the instructions on this link, I found that the settings revert to default after restart.
Looking at the last icon (Device Installation Settings), what has worked for me is:

  • Ticked
....No, let me choose what to do

  • Ticked
.....Never install driver software from Windows Updates

BUT
  • Unticked
....Automatically get the device application and information provided by your device manufacturer.

Above settings seem to "hold" after restart and hopefully will not give me new/updated driver software.... :-\

You are very welcome, and I'm saying thanks alot to Kapil Arya for the tips. Hope this tip may help! :)
By the way, I like this sentence: "If it isn't broken, do not fix"
I don't fix me scooter that is only allowed to run 18 mph and it runs 43 mph (Ups! I did'nt say that  :o ;D)
