A HOSTS file is used to block unwanted connections.  MVP HOSTS file includes blocks for ads, banners, 3rd party Cookies, 3rd party page counters and more.  Complete information about MVPS HOSTS is available at Blocking Unwanted Connections with a Hosts File.  Also included on that page are links to installing MVPS HOSTS.

Note: The "text" version makes a great resource for determining possible unwanted connections ... See http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.txt

Update information is available from Hosts News.

Tip:  via siljaline, "There's a little know feature in SpywareBlaster called Hosts Safe - that allows you to save an encrypted backup of this or any customer Hosts file."

Also via siljaline:

A reminder for those that use SpywareBlaster as a Hosts back-up to re-set your IE Restricted Zone to defaults.

After a year and a half's absence, Mike finally announced:

"Health Update ... things go from bad to worse ... slipped and fell in my kitchen and broke my leg (ankle) plates and screws to fix. Several weeks later ... with a walking boot on, I again slipped and fell. While I tried to break my fall ... instead I broke both arms. Imagine that!! A cast on my leg and a cast on both arms ... so as much as I hate to I think it's time to retire from maintaining my Hosts file ..."
