When you delete a file from your internal hard drive, the external recycle bin will automatically keep a backup of the deleted files from your internal hard drive. This will help prevent the accidental deletion of files by the users as anything the user deletes is automatically backed up on the external recycle bin. If your computer has a bluetooth, Tempo External Recycle bin will work on it. There are absolutely no need for any wires as all the backup and file transfers are done using bluetooth."

Shax I have no idea what the Hippo game is LOL
this is the hungry hungry hippo game
where the hippos grab all they can, and the winner, of course, has the most
it's kinda like going to an american buffet and watching all that...

ok, what is it?
hint, the center of the cylinder thing is about a foot in diameter.
o, and cylinder weighs a lot.
the small thing on wheels looks a lot like the liquid nitrogen storage containers I used in my lab is it something like that?
Temmu,
Is it some sort of Robotic waiter.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
neither liquid air nor robot waiter.
although the primary purpose is far from this, you can play music through it.
and, think aerospace.
(previous hint was the cylindrical thing weighs a lot, like 1000 lbs, some weigh much more.)
Temmu,
Is it some sort of lifting gear.
The sort of thing used to move large objects around when used in large numbers.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
nope, not used to pick up and move, but from the looks of it, that's a good guess.
however this item may not be guessable...
one last hint, the reason you can play music through it is
it is a huge magnet, just like the magnet setup on a stereo speaker.
[its purpose is not to be a magnet, but to do something.]
any questions / guesses?
Is it a tool for wiping electromagnetic data storage tapes / drives by exposing them to a strong magnetic field?
no... good guess tho...
last possible hint, me thinks:
it tests stuff, but not with a magnetic field.
(so, how does it test stuff? and there's the answer...)
Temmu,
A large portable magnetic field tester.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
no... doesn't afflict anything with its magnetic field...
think how a stereo speaker works. it has a coil whose magnetic field reacts against another and pushes the cone that produces the sounds you hear.
this thing does the exact same thing, you could conceivably play music over it, but that is certainly not its function.
it is used for testing...
honest, can't provide any more info than that...
guesses anyone?
it is a shaker table used in qualifying aerospace (i guess: 'and other') components.
the table places a vibration load on the part to see if it will shake apart in flight.
http://www.udco.com/news.shtml
[the internet is useless.
if you enter the words "shake table qualification"
two phrases used in the aerospace industry to describe the aforementioned process,
you get nothing relevant.]
someone else may have a whack at choosing a what am i used for item...
Temmu,
Quotea shaker table
wow I can say that was a good one well done on stumping everyone (https://www.landzdown.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy197%2FANG-Graphics%2Fc074.gif&hash=83b10469b6358bdeb857c033926055e88f189207)

checks or counts pills?
checks or counts pills?
No although I would say you are very warm!
fills capsules or is a daily reminder of pills to take?
Niecarrah,
Does it put a coating on allow capsules to be taken effortlessly.

i have one of those.
you wear it on your head, hat-like.
the circular device that houses the 3 nozzles is used to eject mosquito fog.
you walk around your yard, or neighborhood, killing mosquitoes with the aforementioned fog.
rules of thumb:
1. immediately after use, 1. remove clothes, no, 1, go inside, then remove clothes, 2. bathe
no, 1, hold breath while mosquito helmet is in use.
2. don't eat sammiches whilst fogging. and that goes for iced tea too.
LOL um no sorry
R-C,
Is it some kind of Night-Vision helmet.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
no not for night vision
R-C,
is it a gaming hemmit.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
no sorry it is not a gaming helmet
It looks like the helmet I wear when I head-butt my computer for not working properly...although mine has a lot more chips and scratches in it...
R-C,
is it a used in an operating theater
if not may suggest a hint at this stage.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
nope none of the above.
Hint: relax
Is it a dream reader? (Scarey!)
R-C,
Is it a helmet massager
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
you got it !! yes it is a head spa medi-point massager!

Is it an oil lamp (with a reservoir in the bulbous part and a wick coming up to the horizontal flat plate topmost in the picture)?
Not an oil lamp, though reservoir is good!
Shax,
I wondered if it could be used in a kitchen as in a peeler or cutter.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
Nope!
A Nutcracker?
A hookah pipe?
No, not a nutcracker or a hookah...think "desk"...
A pencil Sharpener
Not a pencil sharpener, although in past decades, every writing desk would have had one...although not as ornate as this one!
An inkwell.
Yes! It is indeed an inkwell!

a variable-speed cork - fits in bottles of many sizes...
Something to do with spinning yarn?
Now, I could spin you a few yarns! There was this bloke, once, who....
Eric the Red,
Is it a seed dibber
@Temmu you not mean that the cork is to go back on the bottle once opened :tease:
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
It's not a seed dibber nor is it a variable speed cork for bottles although Temmu is thinking along the right lines.
a furniture peg.
if the hole is too small, it sticks out obnoxiously causing great pain to the sitters thereon.
It has nothing to do with carpentry.
Does it screw into wine barrels...ie a bung? Or maybe a boat's bung?
Quote from: Shax on November 26, 2009, 06:47:48 AM
.... Or maybe a boat's bung?
You are so close but I don't think that I can give it to you - it had a specific purpose for a particular type of water craft. Are you able to narrow it down?
For plugging leaks in wooden boats/ships?
Plugging leaks, yes. Boats, yes - of a sort. Wooden, no.
A life raft bullet hole plug, it was part of a kit for a life raft that was carried on an airplane or large ship.
An iron screw used for plugging a hole in an ironclad sub?
It's not for GR@PH's pedal-boat, is it?
Fibreglass yachts?
Submarines?
Jet-skis?
...rubber Zodiacs
wind-surfers
aircraft carriers
mine-sweepers
destroyers
radio-controlled model boats
rubber duckies in the bath-tub
tyre-tubes in the pool

It looks like our gadget that opens jar top such as onion jars
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
it's obviously a ninja weapon.
and, because it is packed in a blister-pack,
it's sold in the sporting goods section of better retailers.
nope none of the above sorry.
a spanner wrench to open your jacuzi filter to remove the remnants of last nights party. urf.
a Pry Bar of sorts?
A 21st century copy of a Roman Strigel - a curved metal instrument used to scrape sweat off, particularly after bathing.
no sorry no one has it yet.
It is relatively inexpensive and can be used on something we have all handled at some point. And I would like to have one it would come in quite handy.
A sickle?
an ear ring for the obnoxious
no not a sickle and definitely not an ear ring.
hint it can be attached to something in order to be used
stumped. sorry. not even an amusing guess.
R-C,
I think we need another hint or evan another picture of it say a side view.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
ok I actually managed to find another good angle of it

A salad spinner?
well I guess I will give it to you for water sprinkler but it is actually made to screw onto the top of one of the large soda bottles so that you can use any plastic bottle as a watering device.

Yes, R-C, that's what I meant. I was just abbreviating my answer...
Here's one that might look familiar (but it's not for the same purpose!)

GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:

it is used in the wilderness to choose the correct "wiping leaves"
the blue eye turns red if the leaf's name begins with "poison"

(it has a warranty, if it fails they will mail you 1 dose of benadryl and some calamine lotion.)
LOL um nope sorry.
hint : it is to be used on the human anatomy somewhere for something
it fits inside the sleeve cover shown
A thermometer to go in the mouth. Leave it two minutes and then look at it - if it is red then you died two minutes ago.
hahaaha then it would be a death indicator!
no sorry
lol - yeah, that would have been my guess, a thermometer...
however... is it a pregnancy tester?
i graciously enough won't mention the anatomy involved... :tease:
nope not a pregnancy tester and not a thermometer

R-C,
Is it use as a physiotherapy aid.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:

ok next hint it is used on the human body above the shoulders. It does not heat, cut, emit, or shock but it does cause something to change.
it makes your ears and nose drain. together.
failing that, you drool.
R-C,
ids it an hearing aid.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
no none of those either

Eyes
Nose
Belly Button

Sun spots
Blackheads (aka Schwartzkopf!)
Pimples
Nipple hairs
Oops!
Belly-buttons and nipples aren't above the shoulder, unless you've had a BIG facelift! :smash:
LOL nope none of those and not a mood enhancer either.
Ok next hint it is used somewhere on the human head/facial area and it causes a change in something which would be noticeable.
(https://www.landzdown.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg695.imageshack.us%2Fimg695%2F8233%2F21ikwpw2nalss500.jpg&hash=226b7ffe17423f2eb1585fcddf3ad29b0cfca674)

A brain detector?
Nose-hair remover! :mitch:

hint can be used by both sexes male and female.
A temporary Face Lift device?
nope sorry.
hint using it will help to improve something very specific.
Snoring?
nope not snoring, if it did I would have bought it already for my husband!
Headache Relieving Tool?
no sorry.
next hint: it does help you remove/ eliminate/ get rid of something in particular.
other hints given: used somewhere on the human head area, does not emit anything, does not cut, shock, pierce, anything. can be used by both sexes. at some time or other all of us could benefit from it. It causes a change in something that would be noticeable
you put it in each eye, one at a time.
you then spray paint the eyeball, changing the iris color.
(remember which eye is being masked, spray painting the unshielded eye could result in temporary or permanent blindnessess.)
you put it up each nostril one at a time.
if you are able to remove it, said nostril is now larger, which could have these positive effects:
- you could possibly breath better.
- nostril will hold more marbles.
failing to remove it from said nostril could have these negative effects:
- sir/ma'am, what's that hanging out of your nose?
- restricted breathing / suffocation
you could stick it in your ear (i hear that a lot. trust me. a lot.) with this benefit:
- semi or permanent ear ring
Breath freshner?
DING DING DING WE HAVE A WINNER!!! WHEW I THOUGHT THIS ONE WOULD GO ON FOREVER! CONGRATS IT IS INDEED A BREATH FRESHENER DEVICE. Neutralizes the breath when sucked

A sound "weapon" during the war
BG
Nah, and nah...although Basementgeek is approaching it....not a "weapon".

Um, thanks, Niecarrah...
I'm sorry, but I've already jumped the gun and posted a new pic... :thud:
No Worries!
I'll risk falling in to the trap......
.... a World War 1 foghorn?
Not a foghorn...and what trap? :muahaha:
Is that Hitler in the pic?
i already posted "public address system" ... is it?
warning sirens or horns as it were that could be placed around the city to sound an alarm... incoming!!
Not Hitler (Emperor Hirohito, actually), nor a PA system.
R-C, you're getting warm, but not quite there....
um used to signal the troops to fire the big guns?
In a fashion, but not directly...
to announce to the troops to gather to march? or to come to attention for something
Clue: It's the opposite to a PA system...not what it transmits....
a receiver of sorts
it somehow listens for incoming planes or bombs or other weapons of destruction?
R-C...YES! You got it!
These are Japanese acoustic locators from around the 1930's. These were used to detect aircraft and the photograph shows anti-aircraft guns to the right.

sorry nope not part of Wii or Nintendo
R-C,
Are they the lights used by in a tanning salon.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
nope but as part of it there is light involved
the tops appear to be the male end that screws into a "c" class light socket.
but not being a light...
does it play christmas music?
yes it does indeed screw into a standard light socket and does have a light at the end and yes it could play Christmas music, I have to give it to you, these are by Klipsch they are called light speakers you can screw them into any light socket like the can lights or ceiling lights and from the bottom it is a light and it is also a speaker which is wireless and the controls are for that aspect, this lets you put speakers pretty much anywhere in a house with out wiring.
Klipsch Light Speaker Screws Into Existing In-Ceiling Lights (http://larryfire.wordpress.com/2010/01/05/klipsch-light-speaker-screws-into-existing-in-ceiling-lights/)

GR@PH;<'S
nope nothing to do with beer or bottles sorry
R-C,
OK would i be right in thinking it is a utensil used in the kitchen.
if so then it could be used to make face shapes out of marzipan/Almond paste.

nope, the hints were it is usually found in the kitchen and it has a specific use which involves a vegetable.
Does it string beans? Or put pretty grooves in carrots and the like?
R-C,
I think we need another hint.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
nope none of those.
hint it takes something off of something
Used to skin cucumbers ?
BG
Does it take something off....
Artichoke - a tight head of fleshy leaves, delicious with lemon butter
Asparagus - tender green tips available during a short growing season
Aubergene - A rich purple vegetable that absorbs strong flavours well. The aubergene is called eggplant in America.
Beans - high protien seeds of legume plants
Beet - Tubers with rich nutty flavours. A sweet variety of beet is grown commercially in europe and asia for sugar manufacture.
Broccoli - green and delicious and full of vitamins
Brussels sprouts - traditionally eaten with Christmas Dinner in the UK
Cabbage - the king of vegetables. Easy to grow almost anywhere
Carrot - Introduced by the Romans, carrots have been popular for 2000 Years
Cauliflower - White relative of broccoli
Celeriac - a large knotted ball-like root vegetable which makes amazing nutty soups
Celery - Slightly bitter (unless blanched) european stalks with a distinctive flavour, used in salads, stews and soups.
Chard - green leafy vegetable
Chicory - bitter vegetable
Collards - This leafy green vegetable is also known as tree-cabbage and is rich in vitamins and minerals.
Corn - North American native vegetable considered sacred by many native tribes. Confusingly corn is also the word used to describe the seeds of wheat and barley.
Cress - small peppery sprouts
Cucumbers - related to courgettes and traditionally used raw in salads. The cucumber grows quickly and holds lots of water
Gourds - The common name for fruits of the Cucurbitaceae family of plants (members include cucumbers, squashes, luffas, and melons).
Jerusalem Artichoke - It isn't an Artichoke and it doesn't come from Jerusalem. The jersalem Artichoke is actually related to the sunflower. The bit we eat is an ugly little tuber (like a small thin potato) that tastes amazing. It has a smoky taste that really excites the palette.
Kales - Until the Renaissance, kale was the most common green vegetable eated by the people of northern Europe
Kohlrabi - Kohlrabi is a member of the turnip family and can be either purple or white.
Leek - The national vegetable of Wales.
Lettuce - lots of green leaves used as a mainstay of salads. Varieties such as round, isberg, lollo rosso and radichio are popular.
Melons - Wonderful fruits with a high water content. There are many farmed varieties . All have seeds surrounded by rich, watery but sweet flesh that is encased in a fairly hard shell.
Mushrooms - not technically a vegetable, but a far older member of the plant kingdom. Mushrooms do not use sunlight to produce energy, hence they have a completely different range of tastes than any other vegetable. Did you know that the largest single living organism on earth is a mushroom called Armillaria Ostoyae, the biggest of which is up to 8,500 years old and carpets nearly 10 square kilometres of forest floor in northeastern Oregon, USA.
Okra also called 'ladies fingers' or gumbo is a wonderful pungent vegetable from the same family as hollyhock. It probably was first cultivated in Ethiopia and is still a North African staple, but has become popular in Europe, Asia and America too.
Onions Onions have been eaten for tens of thousands of years and we still aren't bored of them.
Parsnips The sweet, starchy parsnip was a very popular european vegetable before the arrival of potaoes and Sugar Cane from the Americas. Although not the prize it once was, the Parsnip is a classic root vegetable, particularly popular in more northern lattitudes.
Peas - best eated within minutes of picking as the sugars rapidly turn to starch. Therefore frozen peas often taste better than 'fresh' peas.
Peppers - These are the fruit of the Capsicum family of plants. The hotter tasting ones (due to more Capsaicinoids in the flesh) are usually refered to as chillis.
Potatoes - Nothing finer than a steaming plate of mashed potatoes. An american staple crop that as been exported all over the world.
Pumpkins - A popular gourd vegetable used in cooking and to make halloween jack o lanterns.
Radicchio - a chicory leaf used in salads. Popular since ancient times, modern widescale cultivation of the plant began in the fifteenth century close to Venice in Italy.
Radish - rich in ascorbic acid (vitamin C), folic acid (folate), and Potassium, the raddish is a peppery vegetable popular in western and asian cookery. We usually eat the taproot, but the leaves can also be eaten in salads.
Rhubarb - A plant with large leaves that grow out of thick succulent stems with a very particular floral scent. These stems are popularly eaten as a fruit once sweetened and cooked. Rhubarb was originally native to China but has been popular in Europe since Roman times.
Rutabaga - Alternative name for Swede
Shallots - Small onions often with a more fiery bite.
Spinach -large green leaves wilt easily in a pan and are often served with a little butter and nutmeg as an accompanying vegetable. Spinach contains lots of healthy trace minerals including iron
Squash another generic name for fruits of the vine of the Cucurbitaceae family of plants (see also Gourds). Butternut Squash has recently grown in popularity in the United Kingdom.
Swede - Apparently a cross between cabbages and turnips swedes are a low calory root vegetable
Sweetcorn - a north american native plant loved throughout the world.
Sweet potato Ipomoea batatas (related to the morning glory) produces a starchy tuber. In the USA the red variety of sweet potato is often called a yam, although yams are a seperate vegetable in their own right.
Tomatoes - not technically a vegetable, but a fruit. Tomatoes are best grown yourself because the uniform flavourless powdery fruits available in supermarkets are not worth eating.
Turnips - Root vegetable will grow in cold climates.
Watercress - very peppery small salad like leaves
Watermelon - Sweet tasting gourd reaches enourmous size and definitely the most refreshing fruit there is.
Yams - Sweet starchy tuber that are popular in African, Carribean and American cookery
hahahahaaaa you would just die if I said no to that list wouldn't you!
Yes the vegetable it is used for is in your list: Corn
I think somebody else should deliver the coup de grace here.
I am totally embarrassed and ashamed that I resorted to such cheap and obvious tactics. They were totally against the spirit of this competition and I am sending myself to the penalty-box for an indefinite time.
BUT IT WAS DRIVING ME CRAZY! :smash:
having not played this round...
it appears to be a corn de-kernal-er.
if correct, perhaps one of the other players should choose an item...
it is indeed to remove the corn from the cob.

another hint, it's drafty in here.
Temmu,
Would it be some sort of Door / Window draft excluder.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
ah, draft is the right word, but the wrong context...
this "draft" has nothing to do with air flow or movement...

It's an adjuster for a pop-up sprinkler head.
Very good Shax, you got it. It's a tool for adjusting a sprinkler head.
The left end is used for picking up the sprinkler head when not in use. You put it in the center hole of the sprinkler head. This end is also used to adjust the sprinkler left or right.
The right end is an allen wrench. It is used to adjust the spray of the nozzle and if you have to replace the nozzle, you just loosen the spray bolt and the nozzle will come out.

Steam powered catapult on an aircraft carrier, but what the part is, I don't know. I still think it's my mother-in-law and her broom. I'd like to catapult her some place.
Close enough. Yes steam catapult/airplane "part". When the catapult tries to launch the aircraft, this breakaway pin holds the plane to the deck until the engines develope enough power along with pull, from the catapult to insure the aircraft flies. Can't break the pin, you don't move.
I guess the newer carrier us something different now. This one came from USS Coral sea. I was on it for a week and I was never in the Navy !
Your turn.
BG
It's called a 'holdback'. Does it actually breaks apart? That smallest diameter on that shaft must be about an 1/2 inch in diameter. That's a lot of force to snap that.

Nothing to do with lights but it is lighting fast
BeeZee,
Would it have to do with gears.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
QuoteWould it have to do with gears.
In a round about way, it does have to do with gears. It all depends on how
fast you turn those gears.
Fitness monitor/GPS tracker? For bicycling?
Shax and GR@PH;<'S both of you are close to what it is used for.
Shax, it is not a fitness monitor/GPS tracker.
I has to do with speed.
BeeZee,
Hmmmm ok so is it an accelerator for an electric bike.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
GR@PH;<'S, it is not an accelerator for an electric bike.
It has to do with speed and strokes.
BeeZee,
I thinkm someone else should come have a go as i sure do think I am not going to get it well at least not with out a hint or two more :moreevil:
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
Shax was close with "Fitness monitor/GPS tracker? For bicycling?"
and another good clue was "It has to do with speed and strokes."
Part of it attaches to the frame and the other part attaches to a sprocket or a spoke.
BeeZee,
Sound good
Know how ever you get another turn unless you give it to Shax but then you need to let her know she won
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
Shax was close , saying a monitor but it is not a "fitness monitor/gps tracker".
Look at the three words in bold print. monitor, speed, strokes.
If you don't get it this time, I'll give you the answer and then come up with another "What am I used for". I know both of you should be able to get it.
BeeZee,
ok i think i got it is it one of those fancy electronic rowing machines
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
Nothing to do with a rowing machine.
It is a speed and cadence sensor. Here is a link http://www.motorola.com/us/consumers/MOTOROLA-BIKE-SPEED-CADENCE-SENSOR/84064,en_US,pd.html (http://www.motorola.com/us/consumers/MOTOROLA-BIKE-SPEED-CADENCE-SENSOR/84064,en_US,pd.html)

BeeZee
Is this used on a bike?
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
QuoteIs this used on a bike?
Yes, it is used on a bicycle. I have one on my bike. I shows the speed at which you are traveling and how many pedal strokes you are doing per minute. It also has an odometer, trip odometer, how much time you were on the bike, your average speed, your top speed for that trip and a couple of other things.
I usually have it where I can see how fast I am going and what my cadence is. I usually average 13.5mph and a cadence of 75.
Bernie
BeeZee,
That sounds like a good gadget :cheers2:
----
How about the other what am iis that used on a bike.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
GR@PH;<'S, go back 2 or 3 posts. I posted another picture for everybody to guess what is it used for.
BeeZee,
Yes I did see this

I did ask if it was also to do with a bike.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
I'm sorry GR@PH;<'S, I misunderstood your post.
That wire thingy has nothing to do with bikes.
Bernie
BeeZee,
Is it an industrial cling film holder.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
No industrial cling film holder. It will hold onto something though. Think underground.
BeeZee,
Would it be used to pull cables.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
Nothing to do with pulling cables.
Dimension for this thing is about 5 inches long and maybe 2 inches wide. Not very big. It's also made out of stainless steel.
BeeZee,
Would it be used to hold some thing so to make it into a working tool like a fat scraper down in the sewer getting rid of surplus fat.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
Let's review some clues.
Think underground.
It will hold onto something though.
Dimension for this thing is about 5 inches long and maybe 2 inches wide. Not very big. It's also made out of stainless steel.
New clue. It likes to catch something and hold on to it while underground.
Forgot, it has nothing to do with surplus fat.
BeeZee,
Well Ithink that if noone else comes to say what they think it is then you will have to give me more,
now would it have ant thing to do with underground trains.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
No underground trains but it loves fury things.
BeeZee,
Quoteit loves fury things.
So is it a trap for the fury things.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
Yes, it is a trap for those fury things. Specifically it is a Mole trap (http://www.traplineproducts.com/). I've gotten 4 moles this past month with this style of trap. I would mind trying those duffus traps that you have in the UK but nobody makes them here in the USA.

GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
I think we can rule out a UFO.
Is it some sort of fastener?
BeeZee,
No It is not a fastener although it does fasten to something.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
The part that is circled, is it part of what we are suppose to guessing what it is or just something that was in the picture.

The complete circular object is what i am
I do fasten me to your house / Caravan etc
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
Is it some sort of electrical connecter.
BeeZee,
Electrical but it not conect.
the part you hi-lighted is what it attaches to.
See top ot picture for power suply
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
Is it solar-powered? If it is, then I would say it is a solar-powered light.
My first thought was a fastener for a toilet seat. The thing that I highlighted looked like a hinge.
BeeZee,

BeeZee,
Is it handheld milkshake maker
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
No milk shake maker but it does has something to do with the manufacturing of what you would drink.
BeeZee,
Quoteit does has something to do with the manufacturing of what you would drink
 Hammy smell's Brandy :tease: :hammy:
Sadly I sure they never use anything like that to distill it
So on that would it be used to filter something.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
QuoteSo on that would it be used to filter something.
Nothing to do with filtering.
You would use it in the manufacturing of wine.
BeeZee,
Hm I was going to ask if it was an Hydrometer but then thought there are no markings on it or none that are obvious.
So would it be the Air-lock that fits onto the Demijohn.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
Yes, you got it. It is an air lock. I'll probably be using a couple of them in the very near future.

BeeZee,
They do look like the empty brandy containers at the back of my garage :tease:
But could they be for holding tea light candles.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
They are not holders for tea light candles.
They have something to do with various gases when doing something.
BeeZee,
Do they go in side a kiln holding the items to be fired ie: plates cups mugs etc.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
No, they don't go in a kiln but they are around high temperatures. They are made of ceramic and are not very big. The longest one in the picture is maybe 3 inches in length and they screw onto another device.
BeeZee,
Are they used in kitchens for pastry's
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
They are not used in kitchens for pastry.
When I said, "high temperatures", I mean temperatures that would make steel melt.
BeeZee,
Hmm ok so i not touch them :tease:
Would we be used in the smelting of gold silver etc.
GR@PH'<'S :Hammys pint:
Not used in smelting of gold or silver.
Let's review some clues. Ceramic, kind of small in size, high temperatures, molten steel, they screw onto another device, various gases.
Here is a new clue, tungsten rod.
BeeZee,
Would the gas be argon and if so are they used when welding
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:
The gas can be argon and they are used in welding, specifically tig welding.
Those ceramic "cups" diffuse the gas so it better protects the welding area from contamination. Similar to flux when soldering.

Hmmm I was going to ask if they from a cable car.
But now I not sure but hay why notare they used to hold a cable car.
GR@PH;<'S :Hammys pint:

That is a chain cleaner.
I clean my chain the old fashion way. I use "Simple Green liquid degreaser" in a wide mouth Gator-Aid bottle and shake it up.
Let it stay in there for a couple of days, then take it out and put it in another Gator-Aid bottle. Shake it up and let it stay in there a few more days. Take it out and wash it with a garden hose sprayer, let dry on the clothes line, then lubricate it.
I have two chains for my bicycle. One that is being used and one that is cleaned and ready for the next 500 mile cleaning.
Correct, BeeZee!
"I have two chains for my bicycle. One that is being used and one that is cleaned and ready for the next 500 mile cleaning."

Niecarrah, it has nothing to do with gunsmithing.
QuoteIt's not a printer, but you are in the ballpark. Take another closer look.
It has something to do with your computer printer. If you can zoom in on the picture, you will see what it is used for.

My printer just printed out a sheet of paper but with each sentence, the text color got lighter and lighter. What happened?
Ran out of toner or ink so it must control ink/toner?
Niecarrah, I'm going to say that you got it. It is a device that fills the ink cartridge with ink. The coloured knobs would control the amount of ink (red, yellow, blue, etc) that a particular cartridge would need.
It is an ink cartridge refiller.

Some thing used on the end of a flash light/torch ?
BG
Your're good Basementgeek. It is used at the end of a flashlight to protect the lense from getting scratched up. I wished I had one when I first bought my little maglite.

But it may be used after an unsuccessful hospital visit...
QuoteBut it may be used after an unsuccessful hospital visit...
Shax is correct.
bee zee, "shax is correct," what? what is it?
Shax is correct in saying, "But it may be used after an unsuccessful hospital visit...".
He knows what it is but he is giving other people a chance as to what it is used for.
A clue...I once worked in a cemetery garden, and occasionally helped remove long boxes from hearses...
i, for one, cannot imagine what that does.
it has a pin to hold it in place, and rubber to keep the held object from moving.
creepy.
i surrender.
Temmu...what, in the back of a hearse, do you not what to move around?
Shax,

Well Shax, I guess I'll just have to tell them what they are used for.
They are called bier pins. They hold the casket/coffin in place inside the hearse so grandma doesn't slide out onto the road.
Here is another "What am I used for". This might be an easy one for you to guess.

it's a bi cy cle quick release pin thingy.
they are not so quick to reinstall, however.

and... 1 more pix to give you a clue to its size (and use?)
a sexual instrument
 wouldn't surprise me if it was used like that.... :goodie:
however... that's not it's primary function - think 1930's or 40's or 50's - it does fit in something
That reminds of the "thing" my mom used to push meat down into the meat grinder when she made hamburger out of ground chuck, but it was made of wood.
good guess, and it does look like that! however, not that.
hint:
it is a: f___________ (first letter is f)
Is it a medical device?
no, not medical device
it's not used (or probably recognized) today.
second letter of its description
"fi_______" - an 8th grader would easily comprehend the word. (but not the device. a mom or school girl would recognize it in the 1930's, perhaps.)
I have a feeling it is not used in the kitchen either. Maybe used for dressing as a gentleman would use a shoehorn.
fascinating, but incorrect (on both accounts...)
the third letter, and second hint this post:
fil______
again, it's a common word recognizable by anyone at least 6th grade... and it's not unique to "the younger" generation.
In the picture they appear to be made out of glass but can they be made of other materials.
yes, many other materials.
and, most folks would not assume that shape for that use!
because i'm easy  another hint:
filt_____ the 4th letter...
Is it a coffee pot filter?
 coffee pot filter?
why, yes, it is!
this linky shows the type of coffee pot they go in, they are called vacuum coffee pots! http://baharris.org/coffee/Collection.htm
look in the right-hand column for filter: ...glass rod!
and there are others for this type of pot too.
but i thought the first guess as to it's use was probably best :tease:
I can't take credit for the correct answer. My mother knew what it was.
What am I used for?
(https://www.landzdown.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi287.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fll140%2Fberzem%2Fwebsites%2FwhatamIusedfor24_zpsaad07b26.png&hash=787739b3c8b22e1d522b613ca4da947ed904d33a)
well, tell your mom, congratulations!
to describe that tool, here are the craftsman's own words:
"one night i was drinking heavily, but i had 2 orders left by the forge.
one was for a short sword, the other for an ice axe. so, i hammered away
and the two ended up welded together. sigh. now it can be used as neither."
"the good news is, the burns on my fingers and upper body will heal soon."
It is not a sword or an ice ax that are welded together.
It does slide apart for more leverage.
BeeZee,
Is it an early grease gun used by the rail road company perhaps.
GR@PH;<'S (https://www.landzdown.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy197%2FANG-Graphics%2Fthcoffee_zpscf290df1.gif&hash=26239a18e133675e9031c0cf793388819e1fd6a1)
QuoteIs it an early grease gun used by the rail road company perhaps.
Not a grease gun but a carpenter will use it.
BeeZee,
Hmm Would it be an early glue gun.
GR@PH;<'S (https://www.landzdown.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy197%2FANG-Graphics%2Fthcoffee_zpscf290df1.gif&hash=26239a18e133675e9031c0cf793388819e1fd6a1)
It's not a glue gun. It is made of metal.
Nail puller?
You are correct winchester73. It is a nail puller.
Now winchester73, what do you have for us to guess as to "What Am I Used For?".
How about this one?
(https://www.landzdown.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi21.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb290%2Fwinchester73%2FWhat%2520am%2520I%2Fwhatami.jpg&hash=56ef04c331381d511d045346dc303c4882b2e2ce)
A planer
Indeed, a Preston 77 spokeshave :goodie:
Made by Edward Preston & Sons, Ltd, in Birmingham, England. The company was liquidated in 1932. An elegant, ergonomic, ultilitarian plane, it is about 10" (25cm) long, with a 2.25" (5.7cm) mouth. Spokeshaves are designed to shape and smooth curved woodworking, with adjustable cutters that are ideal for shaping wheel spokes, chair seats and legs, rods, paddles, and other curved details.
What have you got for us next?
Want to buy 3 of them? Got 3 of them, 1 England, 1 German (1 rd- 1 curved) 1 small curved unknown made out of brass.

a cannon ball mold, looks to be an 8-pounder.
Not a mold for a cannon ball.
clue; rubber
a jello mold for replicating 8-lb cannon balls. :goodie:
um...
can we get a hint as to how big it is? :o
made of rubber, 2.5 to 3 inches tall, smallest diameter 1 to 1.25 inches, largest diameter 1.75 inches and it is not a mold for anything.
Pickes up golf balls ?
BG
Basementgeek has the correct answer. It's a golf ball picker upper. I have one on the end of my putter.
What do you have for us next Basementgeek?
a template for a radio
Sorry, No
BG
a touch pad for these new phones which I don't own.
Sorry no, nothing to do with a touch screen
BG
a golf ball picker-upper - fascinating.
that, my friend, is a drafting template for lettering
you know, in the good-ol'-days, when drafting was an art.
but not a clue what any of it might do!
You are on the right path, it is used drafting/line drawings but not
used for drawing, but for...........?
BG
Basementgeek,
Hmm I thought it was for cake decorating.

It is not used for lettering
BG
ok... another stab ... lines and arrows ... as in, dimensions, for example.
Sorry, no. Not used for measuring or drawing lines.
BG
Just want to make sure, is it a template for something.
Clue: Rarely used except for pencil........

no... not so much.
sticking it in meat... um, sorta.
Is it used in embalming?
urf! gag!
um, no, but closer to its use that pork roast.
ok... hint - it is used to help people - directly used in people - obviously, perhaps, only very temporarily so.
It is the medical instrument used in various operations to "see" inside the patient, or use instruments through it . Like in Laparoscopic surgery, a trocar?
ta-da! we have a winner!
so... r-c, where on earth did you learn about such? :o that is amazing!
and, r-c, what would you have us guess at? :o
I am a retired medical professional, I have much experience with the tools of the trade lol.

stirrups
ride 'em cowboy!
something that goes into your mouth
brain extractor? (ok, forgive the zombie reference ... brains!)
a mouth holder opener? (yes, wild guess)

It is a tool. It could be considered artful.
It goes no where near the mouth!
And by the way I have used one of these many times also!
USB device
 lol - sorry! i took bee zee's comment as a hint!
it looks like a.... poop injector of one type or another - butt watt, exactly, i do not no.
No and no.
It's used to create something. It is a hand tool.
a clay digger outer?
====bump
No but you are getting warmer! Not used on clay...
ceramics? it cleans out the debris on a cast ceramic before firing?
No it carves...
vegetable carver (pumpkin, melon, etc.)
well... i am drawing a blank... is it a stone chisel?
It doesn't carve stone or food, but think about a part of an animal (don't think gross or gory)
I was going to say would they be used by a vet to give a cat / dog a new leg after having one amputated but you said not gross or gory.
GR@PH;<'S (https://www.landzdown.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy197%2FANG-Graphics%2Fthcoffee_zpscf290df1.gif&hash=26239a18e133675e9031c0cf793388819e1fd6a1)
carves whale bone or ivory
No not used by the vet. And not used for carving whale bone or ivory.
Something very common, a part of an animal that we see, use, or wear frequently, which can be carved in some cases.
I thought this was going to be an easy one. I guess because I have used the tool.
a brush or comb
Does it do this?

Yes! Finally! It is a swivel knife for carving designs into leather. I used to make a lot of leather stuff that I carved.
You get to go next!
Didn't Shax post a yellow thing for us to guess what it was or did I imagine it.
I was going to say it was a bottle cap opener or lid opener.
Yes, I did. It was there yesterday...don't know why it disappeared!
And no, not a bottle opener...

Not cigars, but it is a cutter. Usually in the kitchen.
Depending on it's size would it be used to cut cucumbers.

Google has an image search function that lets you drag an image into the search box, and it will look for the image or similar....
IMHO: If you want to have a "what's this" quiz, take the picture yourself, if it's on the internet it can be as easily found as text.
I didn't start the thread Pete.
