Lavasoft Launches Project "ECO"
Unites a Community of Concerned Computer Users; Gives Series of Reporting and Analysis Tools

Helsinki, Finland, 9 August 2005 - Lavasoft, the industry leader in developing antispyware solutions, launches Project ECO to give users more control over their computers. These goals are achieved by supplying a range of new utilities on a regular basis and ultimately unite a community of users in the best practices and safest standards available in using computers and system networks.

'ECO' is a prefix derived from Greek and Roman roots to denote home; where we live and the environment we are in. Increasingly, we are becoming a society that spends most of our time (work and play) with computers. We rely on them to make our living and to entertain us so it is not a stretch of the imagination to envision computers as part of our environment.

Active community involvement

"Project ECO encompasses an entire philosophy," says Lavasoft CEO Ann-Christine Åkerlund. "It relates to information exchanged within our computing environment and the entire community of computer users worldwide." Project ECO addresses the immediate concerns of an international community involved in daily activities and transactions within the information superhighway. According to Åkerlund, people within this community are bound by a common desire to use computer system environments in the best and safest way possible.

"Computers are becoming an influential element in our society to a wide extent. Throughout project ECO, Lavasoft aims to evolve our environment towards safer computing by continuously developing new, powerful and easily understandable reporting and analysis tools," Michael A. Wood, VP Research, adds. By staying at the forefront of research and development, Lavasoft maintains its pioneering role as worldwide leader in anti-spyware solutions, Wood says.

New reporting and analysis tools

Project ECO is now developing a series of new tools to allow users to explore their system environments in greater detail. The applications will expand the users' control over their computers by providing the means to remove content, which could not have been removed before.

Lavasoft's dedicated R&D team strives to deliver new and exciting tools that users can download for free from our website. The coming tools from Project ECO can be downloaded from www.lavasoft.de/software/eco and will also be available at announced mirror sites. Further information on the Project ECO can be found at http://www.lavasoftnews.com.

What intrigues me is this part:

QuoteThe applications will expand the users' control over their computers by providing the means to remove content, which could not have been removed before.

What could they mean by that?  Isn't that what AAW is for?

well in another "official news release"

QuoteWith the launch of Lavasoft's Ad-aware version 1.06 on May this year, the company successfully addressed this problem by giving the public the best protection available against disturbing privacy threats. "Ad-aware is designed to detect, report, and then give the user the option to remove said content at their discretion," Wood says. "We feel strongly that our mission is consumer reporting first and removal capability as a convenient and important feature."

and i have to ask what did 1.06 do that 1.05,1.041.03,1.02  didn't do?

and what happened to the tools for the "minor programs" that aaw unlisted? remember the "myway tool" and they were going to have more? could that be it?

or they just putting a spin on vaporware?

Now that is what I call a good Press Release. It waffles on about intangibles and provides a link http://www.lavasoft.de/software/eco

which goes nowhere (404) and a "get even more information" link  http://www.lavasoftnews.com/  which doesn't contain any mention of ECO that I can find ...

All sounds like desperation to me or maybe they just forgot to tell their web-meister what they were up to or maybe he's too busy AWOL floating around somewhere?

Just a personal observation ...

Yes Die Hard  :)

You are right ... how can you get even less information than a "404"? .... simple .... just go to a link which mentions nothing.
Mathematically speaking  ... 0<404 ... LOGIC (TRUE)

The operational word in the first sentence is "coming" ... although you would think a link would be posted only if someone wanted traffic to go to it ...

As for the "further information" not being found, perhaps the person who is updating the software for the support forum is the same one attending to this?

Jason

If your favorite sports team makes the best out on the field, it's really sad to see if bad coaching is being the reason of lacking results.
In that case things will hopefully be dealt with by the owners and at the boardrooms.

If a product with immense quality dimensions is being dealt with like... *pausing* :uhm:

Never mind, just some personal thoughts I hope will be dealt with in due time and in proper manner... 8)

"due time" for Lavasoft to get their act together was quite a while ago.  :titanic:
The question is: are they really trying & do they have a clue ?  :uhm:

They run out of clues back when they ungratefully turned their back on some of the best supporters/volunteers any software group would have been proud to have had.
