Title: hijack log
Post by: tmcquade on April 20, 2007, 05:52:52 PM
I didn't rename mine to hijackthis2 and I saved it on my Desktop.  If I messed up, please let me know.  I did all of the rest of the stuff correctly.

Just a quick prelude... I can use my computer in Safe Mode just fine... but when I go to the regular mode... IE freezes up (Not Responding) Outlook does the same.  Everything is very slow.  Safe Mode is lightning fast.  Like when I bought the system.

Thanks

Hi, tmcquade.  Welcome to LandzDown Forum.

It looks like a nasty trojan that we need to get rid of.

There is a vulnerable version of SunJava on that computer.  Let's get that taken care of too.  It is particularly imiportant to uninstall all old versions of SunJava.  Instructions are in my blog post at http://securitygarden.blogspot.com/2006/09/sunflowers-and-sunjava-update.html

Next, let's take care of the service. Now for some cleanup.

A. Please download and install the following files: B. Run ATF CleanerC.  Restart your computer in Safe Mode.If you need further assistance with Safe Mode, see Symantec (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406)

D.  Scanning and system cleaning with AVG Anti-Spyware.  Note: Close all open windows, programs, and DO NOT USE the computer while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning. If Explorer or other programs are open during the scan that means certain files will also be in use. Some malware will insert itself and hide in areas that are "protected" by Windows when the files are being used. This can hamper AVG Anti-Spyware's ability to clean properly and may result in reinfection.

E. Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against the following, if found, and press "Fix Checked":

O23 - Service: WLTRYSVC - Unknown owner - D:\WINDOWS\System32\wltrysvc.exe

F.  Restart in Normal Mode and double-click the HijackThis icon on your desktop.  Choose "Do a system scan and save logfile".

G.  Post a reply with the following logs and let us know how your PC is doing:Thank you.

Thank you for all of your help.  I have just run into one problem.  When I go to download the ATF Cleaner, I can't connect to their page.  I think it is a problem on their end... so I will try again later tonight... but I wondered if there was an alternative program or another way to get this one.  Thanks again.

Tim

Hi, tmcquade.  The link is a direct download link for the .exe file.  ATF Cleaner merely aids in cleaning temp files and makes it easier for Avg Anti-Spyware to run.   Try from this page:  http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/ .  If still unsuccessful, go on with the rest of the fix.
