Title: "You've received a postcard from ........ "
Post by: Eric the Red on July 01, 2007, 11:25:41 PM
Another wave of spammed e-mails using the e-card exploit, starting with the following line (pick your owm permutation):

You've received [a|n] [greeting|] [postcard|ecard] from a [admirer|class-mate|colleague|family member|friend|mate|neighbor|neighbour|partner|school friend|school mate|school-mate|worshipper]!

Click on the link to get your e-card (and pick up a trojan at the same time).

This attack is being reported at the Internet Storm Center (http://isc.sans.org/diary.html?storyid=3063). Watch there for developments.

I hope they called before clicking the link.

No, of course not ... they called because they got an error message that Windows wouldn't open up the file.

Dad has XP with current AV protection, so I'm not too worried about his clicking habits, but Mom won't give up her ME (and her AV lapsed two years ago).  Yeah, she knows she should renew it, especially after I spent way too much time a few years back fixing things after she had trashed it clicking on ... oh wait ... an email link.
