Hey, I'm having issues with my Ad-Watch. I deleted UpdReg.exe ( .exe in relations with Creative Registration ) from my startup and the actual file 'c:\windows\UpdReg.exe' as well recently. But when running Ad-Watch just now, it asks whether I want 'c:\windows\UpdReg.exe' blocked from my startup..and even though I block it, it adds itself to the startup registry location. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thanks in advance..
Edit* I forgot to mention that this only happens when Ad-Watch is running..
Hi, rawr. Welcome to LandzDown Forum.
This is explained in the Help file:
QuoteYou can lock the startup sections of your registry, block possible and actual browser hijack attempts, block suspicious processes, lock executable file associations, Block malicious cookies, block Pop-ups, and uses the all new CSI technology to protect you from unknown variants as well. Even if Ad-Watch is turned off and something DOES install onto your system, it will recognize it and will kill the process as soon as it has seen it when turned back on. Emphasis added
Please do the following:
1. Right click on the Ad-Watch icon in the system tray and select "Restore Ad-Watch".
2. At the bottom of the screen there will be two checkable items called "Active" and "Automatic".
Active: Switches Monitoring On or Off without closing
Automatic: Switches Automatic Blocking On or Off
3.
Uncheck (red X) Automatic.
Now accept the alert from Ad-Watch.
I tried that already..but it still keeps adding itself.
Hi, rawr. I located the information below in my notes. See if this works:
The problem you are having may well be related to something blocking the update to the registry,
Do you run any other registry monitor program such as Reg Prot? If so you will have to do the equivalent of the suggestion below for Ad-Watch.
On your system start Ad-Watch if it is not running. right mouse click on the ad-watch icon in the system tray (on the far right by default) and then select "Ad-Watch Setiings" at the bottom of the Ad-Watch window is an item labelled automatic. click on this so it shows a red cross, i.e. automatic is turned off.
Now start Ad-Aware SE and select the gear icon then select startup. Make a change any change will do and click proceed. This will cause Ad-Watch to issue an alert, accept this change. Now in Ad-Aware SE set the startup options you want. To stop Ad-Aware starting at boot time under "Startup Scan Mode" select "No automated scanning". To be sure also ensure that the items under "Startup Action" and "Automatic Updating" have red cross against them. Click proceed.
Ad-watch will pop an alert again. Accept this change in Ad-Watch. Ad-Watch will now accept this registry update and Ad-Aware SE will be configured not to start at boot time.
In Ad-Watch now set the automatic setting back to automatic. The settings you have set will now be accepted by both Ad-Watch and Ad-Aware SE.
If you are running any other registry protection tools you will need to accept their alerts as well during this process.
Thank you Corrine..that fixed it! Spankin' .. :tease:
