Title: LandzDown Forum IRC
Post by: SpyDie on July 11, 2007, 10:09:27 PM
I am just kidding BTW.  :tease:

Something we'd like to reveal to everyone is we have own our IRC server. In short, it's simply a server for you to meet, and chat with us (the team).

Simply click here: http://www.landzdown.com/irc/

It will launch a web Java applet. This is only a test applet, so beware, call it beta if you wish  :tease:

When you click the link, it will launch a Java applet, which will connect to our IRC server (irc.landzdown.com) and automatically join the main channel.

When you use the web applet, you are automatically given a username of LzdGuest### (### = random numbers). If you want to change this, simply put this command into the message box and hit Enter: /nick NEWNICKNAME

(Obviously substituting NEWNICKNAME with the username you want. Since this is just a simple, test applet at the moment, the feature of choosing a username before connecting has yet to be added.)

So please, join us!

If you'd like to connect directly with the IRC Daemon, use

Server:  irc.landzdown.com
Port: 6667

Upon connecting, join channel #Landzdown.com

Not sure the cause.  Are you running the latest Java Runtime Environment (http://www.java.com)?  Also, what browser, just for my curiosity.

Thx,

Should you wish to use an IRC client, I have had good luck with Trillian.  My personal reason for preferring Trillian over an IRC dedicated client such as mIRC or HydraIRC is that I can also use it for MSN, AIM and Y!

You may find the attached Microsoft Word document helpful in setting up Trillian.

Temmu,
Quotei downloaded and installed trillian.  it does not have irc
I have had a play with trillian and it does look as if IRC is not included but it seems that they do not add IRC as standard it is infact an add on you need to open the trillian then click "trillian prefrences"  scrol down to plug-in's and tick the box for IRC.

Boy Temmu...something sure doesn't seem to want to allow you in the LzD Chat Room  :tease: :exorcize:

I can get in using the Java applet w/ same as you: IE6 & FF2 & Java JRE 1.6

According to Java article at MozillaZine:
QuoteBrowserSpy - Java Information at gemal.dk will tell you whether or not Java is installed and the JRE version, even if Java is currently disabled in the browser (you can disregard any of the "Could not read" notations listed under the "Java using the applet tag:" heading).
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java    <<<Link to BrowserSpy-Java Info at the bottom of page :Testing Java

3-4 ppl posted same errors as you with differing opinions as to why.  See if any fit?
http://www.ld4all.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8329&postdays=0&postorder=asc&&start=45

As far as Trillian, if you are using the latest version 3.1.7.0, yup, ditto what GR@PH;<'S says...IRC should be there.

Twas a bit misleading in the install cuz it offers you a variety a "options/plugins" to choose.  I de-selected the Ask Toolbar and the Weather thingy.  The plugins offered are these:
                       (https://www.landzdown.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi71.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fi152%2Fripley2006%2F44808eb6.jpg&hash=22827b38cddfff7d17c252df7bbdf0cb58cdb467)

You don't see IRC listed and, of course, I saw ICQ and thought it must be a typo  :hysterical:

<Well, no wonder Corrine's screenshots don't match mine as I am trying to fill in the info for IRC in the ICQ boxes >

Where GR@PH;<'S is pointing is how I got it configured to "Add a new connection"...once you tick that IRC box in the Plugin page, it then shows up when you choose Add a new connection.

1.  i just hooked up straight to the internet with a real ip address (i have several.)

2.    I can ping irc.landzdown.com
it replies:
216.127.74.139 in 29 to 291 ms; ttl=51 - i guess i'm a good many hops away.

3.  no firewall.  windows firewall service is always set to DISABLED on my stuff.

4.  i am using trillian basic v3, just downloaded a couple of days ago.

5.  i am configured exactly as shown in the screenshots you/i have posted.

6.  i have r. clicked the white, irc icon and chosen "join a channel..." and typed exactly #LandzDown.com
and have tried #landzdown.com

7.  the perform buffer has exactly this, including the word password, everything exactly in the same case as typed here:
/ns identify password;/join #LandzDown.com

ideas? :sos:  :sinking:

Temmu  :D
Hail mary pass to you.  You got connected once with Trillian so... :mitch:

Before you attempt a re-connect to Lzd chat...open Trillian...go to "Identities & Connections", clk on LandzDown via IRC > Change >and remove the checkmark in "Perform Buffer" section...save your settings, close Trill.

Re-open Trillian>Identities & Connections> Landzdown via IRC > Connect > then right click on the IRC button > Join Channel type in #LandzDown.com.

If no joy...see no open window...try a right click on the IRC Connection button (white button) and click "Show Staus Window" if you get a server window, type /join #LandzDown.com.

Let us know how you get on.

i hate to type all this, but...

reconnecting to irc as "temmu"
will attempt 10 connections with 60 second intervals
error while connecting (error code 10053).  disconnecting.
error while connecting (error code 0). disconnecting.

repeats itself with this, instead...
connecting to irc as "landzdown", attempt #4
error while connecting (error code 10053).  disconnecting.

notice how the first try was temmu, the second, landzdown...

Well the first time you had it right with the username.

For the heck of it, try downloading a different IRC client (mIRC, Ice Chat, etc) and give that a try.  I am absolutely baffled here.  You can get out on port 6667 yes?

Mozilla Firefox

Title: LandzDown Forum IRC
Post by: Ripley on July 31, 2007, 02:57:38 PM
Info related to connecting to the LzD chatroom using the Java applet ONLY:
(Expanding details that might help others)

"imcompatibility" message thrown at the last few FF version updates refers to the Java Console.  Java should function fine in FF w/o it.  Java Console is dialogue window used more by developers.

Check to see which java plugin version your FF is using? Type about:plugins in your FF address bar.
(TIP: You can bookmark the about:plugins page once loaded for quick access in the future)

All things Java for FF and link to test your Java version and whether it is enabled in FF & IE here:
QuoteBrowserSpy - Java Information at gemal.dk will tell you whether or not Java is installed and the JRE version, even if Java is currently disabled in the browser (you can disregard any of the "Could not read" notations listed under the "Java using the applet tag:" heading).
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java    <<<Link to BrowserSpy-Java Info at the bottom of page :Testing Java

If you are using NoScript to handle Java in FF...

Tools>Add-ons>What version of NoScript?

NoScript  1.1.6.08 (latest version listed at addons.mozilla.org today and what I have been using with no problems.)

(NOTE: NoScript Add-0n has been updating frequently, actual latest NS version today per the developer is 1.1.6.12 See changelog for details http://noscript.net/getit)

IF you have Java enabled in FF, but use NoScript to control it...

You would need to temporarily allow http://www.landzdown.com when you load the LandzDown Java applet

Alternately, you have the option to Permanently Allow http://www.landzdown.com at which case...it should show in your NoScripts whitelist. Click on the NoScript status bar icon lower rt corner>clk the S icon>Options to get to the NS console>clk the Whitelist tab, where you can review sites allowed.  I keep LandzDown in my Whitelist.

Quote from: NiecarrahI could type a mess. and send it but I could not find anyone there?
This sounds good.  Maybe no one was there. Members come & go.  The list of users currently logged in the chat room will be listed in the upper rt corner of the open window.  Ignore member names with "bot" at the end for now.
Quote from: SpyDieNote: When you use the web applet, you are automatically given a username of LzdGuest### (### = random numbers). If you want to change this, simply put this command into the message box and hit Enter: /nick NEWNICKNAME
In your case, /nick Niecarrah
This last part of changing your nick is optional, but then your LzD member name will show in the upper right corner.

Sorry, I forgot to start up the IRC service (again). On the previous server I had for this, I set it up to check every so often to see if the IRC service needed starting up. I never did set that up on this server, and I've had to manually start it up after a reboot, which I forgot about last night.

It's back up now.

http://irc.landzdown.com will send you to the new setup. Let me know what you think or if you hit any issues.

Also, I set the server to check every 10 minutes if the IRC service is running, and if not, to start it up. This way, the next time I reboot or something, it'll start up on its own.

Thanks,

Nah, it isn't Aaron.  Lizziebot saw your true colors and saw to it you wouldn't misbehave.

I'll dig some more to see if there's a different option. I did keep the previous setup on hand, so I can revert back to that as well.

@Aaron,
I am able to enter the chat, but will not be able to use the chat with Firefox:

You can access with Trillian and IE and I didn't have any problems with Firefox 6.0.1 so I wonder if it is a Firefox add-on that is causing the problem.  Try with Add-ons Disabled (Click Firefox >  Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled).

I noticed that image only has the Status button and does not include #landzdown.com as shown in the attached image.

Are you running NoScript or something? As a workaround, you can enter

/join #landzdown.com

to join the channel.

QuoteI'm not sure about what " manageyourpc.com" is.
That's the server's actual name - server01.manageyourpc.com. It's a domain I have where I used to have forums at. I shut them down after joining Microsoft.

No, I'm not running NoScript or something that should give any problems. The only thing that maybe could give some problems will be Java Console 6.0.27, but it is deactivated as it doesn't work with Firefox 6.0.1.
I'll try to deactivate some add-on´s and securety settings later today. Maybe a clean new install can help. The problem for me is not that big as I still have IE and Trillian. But it should be able to work with Firefix as well :breakkie:

CGI:IRC doesn't use Java so that is unrelated.  (I also have the JRE 6u27 console disabled in Firefox.)

As a test, I logged on with Firefox 6.0.1 and closed #landzdown.com via the X in the corner (highlighted in the attached image).  Then, as suggested by Aaron, I entered /join #landzdown.com in the text input space from the Status window.  I was reconnected.

Sorry, you just missed us.  Aaron and I were both there until shortly before 11 PM.  We did notice a rather strange rattling noise in the IRC channel before logging off.  That must have been you.

In conjunction with the Web server move (http://www.landzdown.com/index.php?topic=54146.0) and closing of the IRC room, the subforum with IRC instructions has been archived.
