Title: Server Firewalls
Post by: ErraticToad on September 22, 2005, 01:51:43 PM
As extra line/s of defence, what would one recommend for use on a windows 2003 server.

I'm thinking in particular of a firewall, but AV, IDS, etc .... name names people.

ErraticToad,

First off: Does this server hold sensitive information?

Second of: What is your budget?

Thanks :)

Apologies for the delay in reply - I'd completely forgotten that I'd posted this until just now [skulks off and mutters in the corner].

My query was very generic - I have no particular server in mind but I frequently get tagged as the "computer expert" and it came to me the other day that if someone asked I wouldn't know what to answer.

My own personal favourite of Agnitum's Outpost doesn't support servers ... yet so I'm told.

Lets just say one wouldn't want any server compromised and budget, let's start at cheap and work upwards (I know about the big end kit such as Checkpoint, Pix, et al, as I deal with them daily for my work). Of course an immediate answer would be a box running smoothwall I guess but I have no experience of it.
