Title: Wireless router placement?
Post by: James on December 26, 2007, 08:13:09 PM
My wife & I will be moving to a new home in January and I have a question about where to place my wireless router. Currently we live in an apartment, so this hasn't been an issue.
We are not sure if the 'office' will be upstairs or downstairs. Is there any loss of signal if the router is downstairs as opposed to the main level (this is a bungalow)?
I have a D-Link 655: http://windowstalk.org/DLinkDIR655.htm

TIA,

You should not loose any loss of signal as long as your new home is not enormous I recommend that the router is positioned in the middle of your home thus giving you the best signal but depending on your needs you want to opt not to use the wireless connection on your main PC as the connection is stronger and more secure

Thanks for suggestions...no, the new home will not be enormous, rest assured!  8)
Also, my desktop PC is directly wired; just our laptops connect wirelessly.

Thanks again...I also hope to have a faster connection ('up to 7MBps') at the new location. I'm rarely seeing 2.5 where I am now with my present provider.  :?
