Post by: Thedrumguru on February 19, 2008, 07:04:50 AM
My Internet explorer shows me an error message every time I open. It loads the home page but then immediately an error report pops up....So now I have no use of IE 7. Please lend me a hand

What is your Windows version? Home XP?  Pro?  Vista Basic?
Is this a new install of IE7?  Or has the problem just start recently?
Are your scans coming up clean?
Do you have a backup browser installed?

First try clearing the Temporary Internet Files from Internet Options>
General> Browsing History> Delete> (next screen)> Delete files.

Some ppl I've seen report that "message" have a borked add-on or toolbar.
One way to rule that out is to "start IE7 w/ no add-ons".

For Windows XP: All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet
Explorer (No Add-ons)

For Windows Vista: Type Internet Explorer in the Start Search box >
click Internet Explorer (No Add-Ons)

If after surfing awhile the problem no longer occurs, then one (or more) add-ons could be causing the problem.

To return to using IE7 with add-ons enabled, close the window that you opened from instructions above, then re-open IE7 your customary way.

Finally, just to be sure we are on the same page, is this the message you see? > http://support.microsoft.com/gp/pc_ie_symptoms0100

That page is part of a trouble shooting guide for IE7 "problems."  Following it might allow you to rule out or confirm some issues.
Clicking on "Introduction" from: Introduction | Your environment | Symptoms, at the top will bring you to the start:
QuoteInternet Explorer stops responding, stops working, or restarts
Internet Explorer problems can be caused by a number of things. And it is difficult to say what is causing your particular problem until we examine it a bit. That's what the step-by-step methods in this Web content are designed to do. We'll ask you a few questions, and then, based on your answers, we'll determine which of these methods we should have you look at first.

Note, if IE7 doesn't cooperate to run the trouble shooting guide above, you can view it through an alternate browser.

Keep us informed on what you find out.
