Title: Where's support for Ewido Security Suite Plus?
Post by: Ripley on October 16, 2005, 10:45:18 PM
OK, I look around the Ewido website and there are 4-5 FAQ's re: basic install questions and no searchable knowledge base...so where do you find info concerning errors/"failed" issues in Ewido log.
Using paid version, my Ewido log entry shows: Reg Query Value Ex failed multiple times, w/ no date associated with it or on screen help to look it up.    :x
Also in XP Event Viewer I have multiple errors associated almost every day w/ Ewido...timing out, etc.    :?
Wanted to search the web for info before posting, but couldn't find much.  I know I can send a message to Ewido as a last resort, but SOMEWHERE there has to be a wealth of questions/answers that I just can't find.
If you all can help me out with the specific problem...I can post more info.
But should I just keep searching....and maybe where?

Hi, Ripley.  Ewido does not have a support forum.  However, if you would copy and paste your Ewido report.txt file here as a reply, we will see if we can assist.  (Note:  analysis may need to wait for Die Hard's return as he is an Ewido expert.)

Ripley here.  Thanks Corrine for your response.  :D  Once again, I'm seeking info for someone else.    I'm still the lowly user w/ Win98 Standard Edition     that can't get Ewido.  FYI,  :secret:  I have 2 cousins that are like sisters to me, who both are both just learning their way around XP and I do what I can to help out, :tech:  but my system has always stayed relatively clean and XP issues are somewhat foreign to me.  Normmork is helping heart (cousin #1) and am asking freckles (cousin #2) to post her issues here in the thread I started.  :ann:  So WHOEVER responds will know what's going on with a different member posting.     8)

  She already posted here and I just split freckles log off to a separate thread thinking it was someone who had posted in your topic and not realizing she is your cousin.

Hey Mitch!
Saw that option too, but was thinking there was a forum or searchable data base that could be checked so I didn't have to take forum time w/ a post.
Did a limited search for Ewido issues at Net-Integration/Invision, Castle Cops, and Major Geek forums (as well as here) and was surprised at how little discussion I ran into.
Many people must not be having issues w/ Ewido?  What little I know of Ewido SS Plus...I am totally impressed!  Catching "bugs" that other software doesn't and a relatively straightforward user interface on a complex program.
Actually, the reason for asking this question has been moved to a new topic: freckles Ewido log, and Die Hard is checking it out.
AND, I did read a review on Ewido SS and the reviewer said the same thing...sent 3 emails for support at the same link you provided and got a reply w/in 24 hrs each time.

Right you are, ripley -- Ewido has been very responsive.  They have consistently worked closely with the security communty.  Although Ewido does have email support, members are most welcome to submit questions or get help with Ewido here at LandzDown Forum.  If you check the pinned topic on Ewido in this forum, you'll also see Die Hard's tutorial on setting it up.  He is quite experienced with Ewido.  If, by chance, he doesn't know the answer, Die Hard will certainly do what he can to obtain the help that is needed.

 :D  From what I read in the "other anti-trojan software" sub-forum at www.wilderssecurity.com ,
in comparing the relative merits of Ewido & A-squared, if your emphasis is on "real-time"
protection, BUY A-squared, but if you want the better scanner, use Ewido, even the FREE version.

When it comes to anti-malware software (whether it be antispyware, antivirus, or antitrojan), the "flavor of the day" often largely depends on which software has added the latest nasty to their definition files.  Sometimes, it may even take more than one of those software programs to clear an infection.

Here at LandzDown, we are, most fortunately, not limited to our selelction of software used in helping people.  Thus, although we may have personal favorites in the various categories, we will do our best to provide or locate help without prejudicing users toward one software over another.  Naturally, we tend to lean toward the free software programs in providing help.

yep on my old XP i use
A2 and Ewido  (free of course)

at first ( a year or so ago) Ewido would do all the updateing and A2 would update about once a month

but for the last few months they both have done a lot of updates !

since they do only manual scans, no rush to update, just update before you run

and kinda like the old AAW and Spybot thing, but why fight, run them both and you are safer !
