Title: Windows Genuine Advantage Plugin for Firefox
Post by: Corrine on November 26, 2005, 10:37:58 PM
Microsoft's Windows Genuine Advantage program requires users to validate before downloading certain updates. Supposedly, you can download those updates using Firefox courtesy of this Microsoft supplied plug-in (http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/Validate.aspx).

QuoteWgaPluginInstall is an application that installs the WGA Plug-in for your Firefox Browser. When you are prompted with the dialog box to download the application, you would have to either open and run the application or save it on your system. If you have saved it on your computer, browse to that location and double click the application to install the plug-in.

You must download and install the WGA plug-in to use this web site.
Great, right?  Only one problem, there's never a prompt for a download of any plugin. All I was able to finally come up with was the legitcheck.hta. So, MS has again confirmed that my machine is genuine but no plugin.

Has anyone else tried it?

Just did.  Using Firefox I followed the link that you supplied and got an immediate prompt to download/save.  Once complete I installed it and refreshed the MS page which confirmed that it had installed correctly.

I wonder why you got the d/l prompt.  Attached is a copy of the popup I got at that site.  After clicking OK, I was taken directly to the page with the:

Did the WGA Plug-in install correctly? What do you see?

Please install the Plug-in and then
click the Refresh button below to
check if the Plug-in loaded correctly.

I should add that I checked & microsoft.com is in the allowed sites for popups & download.
