whenever i back-up files to CD, i get a message saying CANNOT COPY "THUMB'S - RETRY, SLIP, etc"
seems like the only way for me to proceed, is to click SKIP.

is what i'm doing OK? what's THUMBS, anyway?

just a guess
do you have thumbnail pics on your computer? (small thumbnail size pictures ( usually a preview)
does it give you a hint where that file is at?
what is the exact name that it can't copy?
and have you used windows explorer to look for that file and can you open and view them?

and last of all when is the last time you ran a "scandisk (win98) or "error check(xp) on that drive"?

i find many "thumbs.db" files when i search my drive.
if i click them, i get an alert - "can't open, this is a database file."
***
to get the EXACT error message, i'll have to put in a CD and copy some files (i get it EACH time i do that)
***
error message says something like: "Can't copy thumbs file." -- and something about how it might contain missing data.
i haven't noticed any problems with the files that i back-up, ALTHO i only check a few; i've never had to RESTORE a bunch (these are merely back-up's)
***
i don't have "THUMBNAILS" of photos, at least that I know of.
i have a fair # of .jpg's and .gif's.
within a folder, i have the OPTION of viewing them as THUMBNAILS, DETAILS, TILES, ICONS, etc.
***
BY THE WAY...
i'd LIKE for my jpgs to ALWAYS open as THUMBNAILS. and, i'd like my folder view of txt files to open as DETAILS view.
any way to do this?

seems like i always have to keep re-setting them, over and over.
( if i change the default view permanently, does it effect ALL files -- jpgs and txt -- or can i set different folders to open differently?)

THANX
