i have an older machine running XP home, & have never seen anything like this before.
didn't use it for about 3 mos- when i turned in on yesterday, windows updated & gave me on&off screen freezes- i can't get apps to open, etc.
i re-imaged drive (with software the starts w/ Serv Pack 1)- & the problem CAME BACK.

per event viewer: Source: CONTROL MANAGER, event ID: 7023, specified module that could not be found: netevent.dll
* i found the microsoft link (below) but it doesn't seem to be applicable.
* any ideas, LandZians?
microsoft's way of "nudging" me toward Win 7?

the cited ref asks you to consider, do you have a network card in that machine, and is it plugged into your network?
if you do, perhaps plugging into the network would resolve the issue...
that's interesting.
i'm plugged directly into my modem via ethernet cable- which i usually never do; i go wifi.
could that have something to do with it?
* i'll switch the wifi button to OFF.
what's strange is, it happened BEFORE & AFTER i re-imaged the drive.
i thought the microsoft update had corrupted, because Norton turned on.
But- going to a early System Restore point didn't help.
* this last bunch (over 10 crashes) happened soon after boot-up. if i didn't crash early on, i had no problems.
i'll switch the wifi card to off & see if it helps.
thanks!
cool. let us know.
