Title: Need to rescue .dbx files from my very sick HD
Post by: Goatie on January 03, 2006, 07:42:27 PM
My HD has a big problem of rapid deterioration right now... many segments gone to the birds (or the rats!). I bought a new one this morning but waiting for my son to return, to replace it. Goats don't handle HDs. Windows no longer give me access to my old account,  but was kind anough to open another one from which I could open yet another one that would keep my settings right.  I am trying to save some of my Outlook .dbx files but can no long do a full normal back-up of them since a few are corrupt by now and my drive just digs deeper when I try... However I did find the folder and the .dbx files I need and transfered some from the old to the new Outlook Express folder in the new account with the help of Windows explorer as mean of transfer...

Now, they are there with the others in the proper new folder... but why don't they show in my Outlook main window???  Why can't I have access to them??? Anybody with a magic wand to make them become available???

whew. If i learns anything on what lack of confidence is all about, it's been some of micro's basic manners, which seem to slip out the door on occasion and sometimes won't come back.

Hello again  :flowers:  Flowers might be appetizing for a hungry goat right now, especially when hungry for
a good and decisive answer sadly i can't provide, but take heart, you'll get some of those good suggestions real soon.
My own worse fears and discouragements on micro systems is when certain files somehow mysteriously
get corrupted or scrambled up to the point that those entertaining error notices so kindly announce themself.

Hope comes along soon for you with that Magic Wand.

hummm... i think what she needs is help

might look at this?
http://www.insideoutlookexpress.com/problems/bugs.htm#mailgone

BUT with the HD commiting suicide i would think hard about installing anything now

i myself would back up to cd or anything all i could of programs or files that i downloaded , including picks of maya (bobby made me say that)

AND REMEMBER
when you get a new hard drive installed and working, i bet someone you know could plug in the bad drive as drive D and try to recover more

and looking around i see that the dbx files have problems and not the most stable thing MS ever did !

i did a google on "save OE dbx files " (try repair OE dbx files) and had several pages of ideas, but i think the data might be corrupted with the drive

sorry
:breakkie:
maybe after coffee some fresh ideas?

JOSEPH... thanks for the flowers, kinda nice right now to have something like that to chew on... it does warm up a winter in every sense of the word! a cold HD included... eheh!

MITCH.... I went there and did download a program. Nothing to lose at this point... I do have all my programs backed-up and all photos too... and favorites... and address book.... and you name it... some of those emails are very important to me because they have registrations numbers, passwords and proofs of purchase, that kinda stuff... etc... So tomorrow I'll try to use this little program and see if it is magic... ;-)
