Title: Delay in aaw opening
Post by: kenb on February 03, 2006, 10:36:30 AM
There seems to be an unusual long delay in opening window loading on Ad-Aware Plus.
It takes some time searching for definitions.
This had started happening since reinstalling.
Have I set it up differently?
Help would be very welcome.

kenb,
I recommend that redownload a fresh copy of Ad-aware plus,
(Note you will need your registraion details to get the new copy)
then after doing that un-install the version you have of Ad-aware plus, Then Reboot (ie: Re-start your PC)
then go and remove any folder that is left behind on the hard drive IE:The orphaned Lavasoft folder.
Then re-install Ad-aware plus.

Thanks for prompt reply, carried out your instructions but it has not change anything,it still takes about 2 mins. loading definitions before window loads after opening from desktop shortcut.

kenb,
just a thought but have you tried doing a thorough Disk Defragmentation,
if not try one also clear out your cache folder ie: temporary internet folder There are some free programs that you can use that will do that for you if needed like ;)
CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/)
(Note in CCleaner: go to >options > advanced > Uncheck "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours"). .
please can you do a"Full Scan" (http://www.lavasofthelp.com/howto/scan_se/) and post it for us by using the Add-Reply Feature .
Also you may want to  download ewido (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/)

Thanks for all assistance offered,I have finally after what seems like months of problems of various kinds have managed with the help of a computer repair service  to cure the problem. After a quick inspection the motherboard was found to be faulty, there was obvious leakage on several capacitors making the board unstable causing all sorts of alarms and reboots.Motherboard replaced, problem solved .
Hoping to return to some form of normality

Hi, Ken. Too bad about the MB, but its great news that your PC is repaired.  Make sure to get all the software updates you may have missed while having PC problems.  :)
