Please help. As of two hours ago my computer was working. Now I am stuck in an endless reboot loop that runs startup repair (Vista) but can't fix the problem. According to the log (that I can't copy and paste b/c I'm posting this from my iPhone) the error is 'StartupRepairV2' showing a corrupt volume (possibly @ Chkdsk???). I have tried everything that I can think of, which is pretty limited, and am starting to think my issue is more so a virus or other non-user induced issue.
Hi, Jmack329. Welcome to LandzDown Forum.
There would have been some action that resulted in the StartupRepairV2 error. For example, if shutdown occurred while security updates were being configured this could cause the error.
Try restarting in
SafeMode by doing the following:
- Restart your computer
- After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
- Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
- Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
From Safe Mode, select a System Restore point prior to the error message.
In the event you continue to be stuck in a reboot loop in SafeMode, restart again following the above instructions but this time select "Last Known Good Configuration". Don't be impatient -- wait for the system to locate and load that configuration.
If neither of the above solutions work, follow the Microsoft instructions at KB 927392: How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392).
Let us know how you make out.
