Title: CCleaner Updates (Basil's issue with ESET blocking the installation of CCleaner)
Post by: Basil on December 19, 2013, 05:30:28 PM
Tried to download, but I am getting an alert by ESET Antivirus 7, that there is a "Threat":

Win32/Bundled.Toolbar.Google.D           Potentially unsafe application.
I get the same warning from all three download locations.

I don't know if this is legitimate or a false positive. I have seen no mention of it on the ESET Forum.
For the time being, I have aborted the installation......

Here's a link to virustotal's analysis of the file from the download link posted just above your findings :

Thank you blues for the info.
I will have another go at updating and probably ignore the warning (if it is still there)....

Well....Just tried again to update and ESET will not let me. It keeps blocking the download, repeatedly.
I will have to wait till ESET sort the mess out.
Ridiculous.... :tech:

CCleaner (Standard build) typically offers users an option to add-on a toolbar (e.g., Google), which can be UNchecked as desired.   That's probably why your A-V is objecting.

If you wait a few more days, CCleaner will offer a SLIM build, which is "junk-free".

I was typing a similar reply about the opt-out toolbar, you beat me to it.  :D

Probably the easiest way to download the Standard build is to temporarily over-ride ESET's detection and have it "ignore":  http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN3204&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1387550314230

FWIW, I use the Slim build myself.  It is usually released a week after the Standard and Portable versions.

Thank you Winchester 73 for the prompt.
I had to over-ride ESET'S detection on "Potentially unsafe applications" for the update to take place.

There was NO offer of toolbar or any other add-on. I really don't know what ESET is playing at. I have already asked them (via Tweeter) why they are suddenly blocking CCleaner.....Looking forward to a reply... :breakkie:

By the way, I have since the CCleaner update, scanned my system with both MBAM PRO and ESET.....No problems found.

Thank you guys for the help   :Hammys pint:

Basil, you will only be offered the toolbar on your first install, after that it will remember that you declined it, However, the toolbar  is still in the download package, hence why Eset is giving you the warning.
