Title: Virus quarantined and driver update warning
Post by: lisa20 on January 12, 2014, 11:08:29 AM
A couple of months ago, I was on an ecard website and downloaded something possibly from Conduit: http://search.conduit.com/?ctid=CT3318857&octid=EB_ORIGINAL_CTID&SearchSource=69&CUI=&SSPV=&Lay=1&UM=2&UP=SPD630FFB7-6A0A-4921-933A-0F771C9511A8. I am unable to save different home pages or change the search engines--something is still on my computer.
Immediately my Charter Security Virus Software quarantined a virus. However, I have had computer problems since the incident. My hard drive keeps making noise periodically like it is downloading something. Also, I keep getting "warnings/advertisements" on my internet pages to download drivers and "remove all errors that are causing your pc to run slow"--there is always a button to download something... I keep ignoring the "advertisements." I do not want to delete everything on my hard drive because I have a lot of saved files. What do you recommend I do?

Hi, Lisa.  Welcome back.  I'll need to see some logs.  Since they will be rather lengthy, it will likely take a couple of replies.

First, please provide a copy of the logs in the Log Posting Instructions (http://www.landzdown.com/analysis-and-malware-removal/log-posting-instructions/) topic.

Then, do the following:

Please download AdwCleaner (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/) by Xplode and save to your Desktop.

Thank you so much! I'm able to complete some of the log posting instructions--unable to complete 3. Please download Security Check by screen317 from here. I get this message: This error (HTTP 403 Forbidden) means that Internet Explorer was able to connect to the website, but it does not have permission to view the webpage.

For more information about HTTP errors, see Help.

I will keep going through the rest of the steps. I did get two logs.
