Hello everyone,
I live in Japan and asked my secretary here to order me MS Office Mac 2011 (Home & Business edition) with the English language interface, not Japanese. Yesterday, I received the software, yet the majority of the writing on the packaging is Japanese, and after the activation code number located on the edge of the packaging it reads "Off Mac HomeBus MultiPK 2011 Japanese DVD".
I'm assuming that this is the Japanese language MS Office user interface, not the standard English language user interface; i.e., she ordered the wrong language version of this software? I don't wish to open up the box and pop in the DVD only to discover that it's the wrong language software (plus don't want to activate the product if it's not the English version of Office).
Any help on this surely appreciated!

It does appear that the wrong package was ordered. I believe it should easily be able to be exchanged if the seal isn't broken.

By the way, and without starting a new thread, I do have another quick question for you. What's the current consensus here regarding Macs and antivirus software? Is it actually needed and considered beneficial? I use Norton 360 on my Windows machine, yet interested to learn if Macs are still considered fairly immune to attacks. I set up the firewall on my new MacBook and my new AirMac Extreme wireless router here at home is password protected. I realize that Landzdown might be the wrong forum to ask Mac related questions, yet interested in your thoughts.

Macs are a smaller target, thus less profitable for malware writers. However, Macs are not exempt from trojans and viruses. The person I always turn to is ESET Senior Research Fellow, David Harley. He maintains a blog at Mac Virus | The Official Mac Virus blogsite (http://macviruscom.wordpress.com/) and he references recent articles by others here: Words to the wise | Mac Virus (http://macviruscom.wordpress.com/2014/03/21/words-to-the-wise/). In another recent publication, he pointed to the timeline published by ESET at Mac Myths and Facts (http://www.eset.com/us/mac-malware-myths-and-facts/).

Would I use an A/V if I had a Mac? Absolutely. I'd want to protect my (or in your case, the university's) investment. Besides, if you run into trouble, I won't be able to help you as I could with a Windows computer. :D
