Title: WinPatrol: Changing of the Guard
Post by: Corrine on June 30, 2014, 07:09:43 PM
As many devoted WinPatrol fans know, the past few years have presented some difficult challenges for the Pytlovany family.  As a result, Bill made the tough decision to seek a new owner of WinPatrol.

The primary prerequisite for a new owner of WinPatrol was that the person have the same high ethical standards as Bill, someone who strongly believes in conducting security business the right way.  That prerequisite has been met by Bret Lowry who told me, in part:

QuoteNo pop-ups, no add-ins, no toolbars, none of the stuff programs put in simply as a way of trying to drive revenue w/o adding value to their customers. I won't do that. Bill has run WinPatrol with integrity for 16+ years now, I will continue that tradition.

Bret also provided his approval for the continuation of our unofficial WinPatrol support site here at LzD.

Additional information is available in my blog post at WinPatrol:  Changing of the Guard (http://securitygarden.blogspot.com/2014/06/winpatrol-changing-of-guard.html) and Bill's announcement at Bits from Bill: WinPatrolâ„¢ Generation II (http://billpstudios.blogspot.com/2014/06/winpatrol-generation-ii.html).

Thanks Corrine! I put up a posting about this on my blog (http://franscomputerservices.wordpress.com/2014/06/30/winpatrol-changing-of-the-guard/) too so more folks including my family, friends and clients will know what's going on.

Good idea Fran and a nice article.  Bill has earned the respect and support of WinPatrol users and I have no doubt people will not be disappointed in Bret.

The guard for WinPatrol may be changing, but not the commitment to producing quality software that protects it's users without irritating them with any unwanted software like add-ins or toolbars remains the same.

Hi I'm Bret, the new holder of Scotty's leash and I felt it important that I post here at LandzDown to show my commitment not only to Scotty and WinPatrol, but to the entire family that is WinPatrol. I happily gave Corrine permission to continue this forum and accepted her invitation to sign up as soon as I could after Bill's announcement. I will be an active member on this forum moving forward and want to thank each and every one of you for your continued support.

I will state here for the record that the lifetime licenses you purchased are just that, lifetime licenses.

The plan is to continue business as usual and to win over your trust through my actions as the new owner of WinPatrol.

Thank You,
Bret Lowry

The comments I've been seeing at other forums and in the Fans for WinPatrol Facebook group make it apparent that your open commitments in the announcement have already won over people.  Others who are familiar with the Alex's high standards and ethics will recognize that you wouldn't have been in the position you were at Sunbelt Software if you didn't live up to those same high standards.

Thanks Corrine! So was yours, as you could tell by my quotes of yours. :D

I feel the same way, if Bill was confident in Bret and so was Alex, then I am also.

I recall reading (somewhere) that they already discovered one (or two) "imperfections" with the planned version... and since this will be the first Ruiware release, they wanted to take care of these first, rather than release something "defective" only to have users find it and "complain".
