Title: Registry Monitoring
Post by: Rednose on July 03, 2014, 12:48:44 AM
Hello everyone :hallo:

These days I am exploring WinPatrol more than ever before, and I became fascinated by it's Registry Monitoring.

I was aware of Bill's article : http://www.winpatrol.com/regoptions.html

... and I am using his default settings and recommendations.

And I found this topic on Wilders : http://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/winpatrol-registry-protection-list-for-windows-vista-7.293958/

... but I didn't /don't use them.

I am really a noob about this, but I am curious if I can found out more / get some input here :)

Read your posts over carefully when you post, and shortly thereafter. You will only have a short time to be able to edit your posts ... I think it might be about 15 minutes, but someone else could confirm if I am remembering correctly.

It is a good security feature.  :mitch:

Hi, Red.

Yes, there is a time limit on editing posts.  The reason is two-fold.  The first being that we ran into situations where members edited logs after posting, which caused problems when analyzing for malware removal.  The second reason is because it is a trick used by spammers.  After making a successful initial post they return to to the thread and edit it to add spam links.

As to the current Registry Monitoring feature in WinPatrol PLUS, realize that when intentionally doing a software install or update, may get additional Alert Messages.  Although you can change your preferences for the alerts from the "Hide Alert Messages" options available from the Options Tab.

Don't be surprised to see the Registry Monitoring feature get some attention down the road.

I always wondered why there was a time limit for editing a post, now I know. Thanks. :)
