I hope I will be able to explain this right as I am not good on here. when I go on I get my desktop picture with my icons, all good. then I hit my home page on the taskbar, all good. Now here is my problem, no matter where I go on the computer I see my desktop picture on the top & bottom of my screen, on the top about 1 1/2" & bottom 1/2", the sides are fine. If I hit full screen I loose both the taskbar & toolbar. I never had this before on windows XP. I know there must be a solution but I can't figure it out. Thanks in advance & Happy 4th to everyone.
Hi, Mary. Happy 4th of July!
As to what you described, I believe I understand that the browser window (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) has inadvertently been resized. You will need to manually adjust the window. With the window open in the "reduced size" with the top and bottom not filling the monitor, you need to hover the mouse over the top of the window. The mouse pointer will change to a vertical arrow with points at both the top and bottom. It will look like this:
(https://www.landzdown.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi134.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fq95%2FTheOutcaste%2FSupport%2FVertDblArrow.jpg&hash=5ceb48b71541517ff1698ae4886b6c1d572bfb91)
With the arrow in place, click the left mouse button and gently drag the window to the top of the screen. Repeat the the process at the bottom of the window.
Note: I don't believe this is the problem, but in the event I have misunderstood what you described, and all windows are automatically resizing and docking along the sides of your screen when you move them there, there is a different "fix".
1. Open Ease of Access Center by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Ease of Access, and then clicking Ease of Access Center (or merely click the Start button and type "ease" without quotes and click on "Ease of Access Center" under Programs in the results.)
2. Scroll down the page and select "Make the keyboard easier to use." (You will be here: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Ease of Access Center\Make the mouse easier to use)
3. Under "Make it easier to manage windows" check the box reading "Prevent windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edge of the screen."
Please let me know how you make out.
Hi Corrine,
Again I am so sorry to be such a pain. I tried both of your suggestions & neither one worked. I use Firefox but also tried IE & the same thing happened. I did reduce the size & found the arrow on the bottom but it will not go any further then the toolbar. On top I can's find the arrow at all no matter how hard I tried.
Went to the second suggestion did what you said & no results.
I have a picture from a site I go on for the desktop picture with all my icons. The sides are fine it is just the top which is real bad & the bottom.
One more thing which just started. I might have hit something when trying to fix my problem. When I go on my home page which is google news it now asks me to sign in every time & it never did this before as I signed in & said to save info.
I am going nuts here.
Thank you
Mary
Hi, Mary.
I think you're going to need to provide an image to better describe the problem. If you're not familiar with how to use the Snipping Tool that comes with Windows 7, please see the instructions below. Additional information, including a brief video, are available here: Snipping Tool - Microsoft Windows (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/snipping-tool).
1. Open Snipping Tool by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button. In the search box, type Snipping Tool, and then, in the list of results, click Snipping Tool.
2. Click the arrow next to the New button. For our purposes, select Full-screen Snip from the list, and then select the area of your screen that you want to capture.
3. When the images appears in the Snipping Tool, select File > Save as. Save the file in a location you can find, whether it be your desktop, pictures or download folder.
4. Come back here and click the REPLY button. Then click "Attachments and other options"
5. Where you see "Attach", click Browse and navigate to where you saved the image you created. Click the image to select it and then click Open. That will return you to your reply.
Personally, I stick with Bing and only use Google for my blog since it was the most flexible when I started. Anyway, perhaps your Google cookies are corrupt. Do you know how to remove specific cookies with Firefox? If not, illustrated instructions are available here: Delete cookies to remove the information websites have stored on your computer | Firefox Help (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/delete-cookies-remove-info-websites-stored#w_delete-cookies-for-a-single-site).
Follow that step with clearing the cache: How to clear the Firefox cache | Firefox Help (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-clear-firefox-cache)
Please let me know if that solves the Google sign-on problem in your next reply.
Hi Corrine, sure hope I did this right, don't know what I am doing.
Thanks
Mary
You attached the image just fine, Mary, but sorry, no. That isn't the full screen which will show the top and bottom 1 1/2" space you're talking about. Please be sure to select "Full-screen Snip" with the Snipping Tool.
Hi Corrine,
I tried one more time. On your instructions-#2 I did select full screen snip but I don't think I am doing the next thing right-select the area of screen that I want to capture. How do I do that? If you say to move the cursor I do and a blue line comes up but only on LandzDown not the top & bottom. I know I am doing something wrong but I just don't what.
Sorry
Mary
Hi, Mary.
I made my browser window smaller to test using the Snipping Tool > New > Full-screen Snip to see if it would pick everything up on the monitor. As you can see in the attached, the snip shows the top all the way to and including the taskbar and desktop background.
(I don't have any shortcuts displayed on my desktop. Instead, I use the desktop toolbar, placing shortcuts there, including in organized folders.)
Hi Corrine,
I don't think I did the attachment right in my last answer. Hope I am doing this right now.
Mary
The last image is good - ignore the white area with that blue line on the top - that's from using the Snipping Tool (a line was drawn there so the image is expanded).
Seems like transparent window borders. Have you changed any themes or installed anything that would do that? I'm basing this off a Windows 8.1 machine but you should be able to right-click the desktop, choose Personalize, and then Window Color along the bottom to change the color.
Regards,
Aaron

Hi Aaron,
I did what you said & changed it to Windows basic which did change the top & bottom to a blue, looks better. No I did not change any themes or installed anything.
Does this mean I can't have a desktop picture background on my Windows 7 without having the problem of it showing on the top & bottom.
Thanks for your help
Mary
I think I understand now, Mary. It sounds like the desktop picture you selected is not filling the entire screen. Depending on the picture you are using, you may be able to get it to fit properly by changing the picture position.
Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Personalization\Desktop Background and click Picture Position at the bottom, as shown in the attached image from my computer. (Just click the image to view it full size.)
Additional information and a video are available here: Change your desktop background (wallpaper) - Windows Help (http://windows.microsoft.com/is-is/windows/change-desktop-background-wallpaper#1TC=windows-7)
My apologies for "getting in the conversation", and sorry if I am out of the subject.
But I think that the "problem" of Mary is just the transparency effect that is enabled.
Right click the desktop, choose Personalize, and then Window Color. Just uncheck Enable Transparency.

Thank you, Panos and Shax. Your entry in the conversation is most welcome. We all want to help Mary get the best from her new computer!
I feel like a baby in a room full of grown-ups!

Hi Corrine, Dr M. & Shax,
I want to thank all of you for helping me. I am very bad when I have to explain a problem on the computer as I know nothing about it.
I did what Corrine said but it did not help. I then did what Dr M. said & guess what the problem is solved.
This is the best site on the computer for helping people like me (dumb bells).
I know all of you will be glad "not" to hear from me again.
Once again thank you
Mary
Mary, we are always happy to help you! You are not a dumbbell. You just don't happen to have a computer background. There is nothing wrong with that. Everyone is different and we all have knowledge in different areas. In this case, we're fortunate that Dr M. (Panos) came along, with Shax echoing this suggestion. Believe me, I never would have come up with the solution. So, thank you, gentlemen! :rose: :rose:
Oh, Mary! Believe me! In front of Corrine, we feel all dumbells here!!! But she is so kind and willing full to help!!! (This is for you, Corrine :rose: )
As for the transparency tip, I like this effect and have it enabled. I prefer it from solid color! It gives ... a more surrealistic appearance in my computer!!! :mitch:
Hi everyone,
I am quite sure I will be here again with my problems, but just so glad that all of you are willing to help no matter what the problem is.
A great big thank you
Mary
You are welcome, Mary. Know that you are among those included in my thank you here (http://www.landzdown.com/meet-greet!/happy-anniversary-lzd!/msg168335/).
Had the same problem and did what DR. M suggested and it worked many thanks
