There are quite a few LzD members who have been using Pale Moon. Some are fed up with the rapid release schedule of Firefox, others with what appears to be changes for the sake of change. Be aware that Pale Moon has some major changes in the future. Today Moonchild released the Pale Moon 25.0 public beta (https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5599).
Aside from this being beta with the usual precautions about beta on a production machine, a few things in particular to note:
-- Pale Moon 25.0 will not run on Windows XP.
-- There may be issues with your add-ons because Pale Moon 25.0 now has its own unique identifier rather than the Firefox GUID (unique identifier).
-- The Firefox Compatibility mode will be disabled by default which may cause problems with some websites.
I've only highlighted a few items that specifically caught my attention. See the above-linked detailed announcement for more information.
Anyone who wishes to test the beta is advised to back up their current profile first. Feedback on testing welcome!
I loved XP - even refused to migrate to Vista - but I applaud PM and others who are finally dropping support for XP. XP needs to go away. We don't need all the extra code to support XP in all these programs on our systems - especially if that code introduces vulnerabilities that are only there for XP support. Plus, not supporting XP leaves the coders time to fine tune features for current operating systems.
Not sure I like the idea the beta may set my hair on fire, but I do like how development is still ongoing with some vigor. :)
For those that are stuck with XP SP3 (or XP x64 SP2), the Pale Moon 25.0 public beta 2 is available in the specialised Atom (x86) version, which is optimised for the older Atom netbooks and their restricted hardware.
There's also an Android version.
Knowing you're a Pale Moon beta-tester, satrow, is there anything in particular that you noticed that works differently in the version 25 beta? Until there is wider acceptance of Pale Moon as a solid entry in browser field, my concern is the Firefox Compatibility mode. I ran into that with outlook.com/live.com a few months ago until Moonchild updated Pale Moon to add some exceptions to the preferences by default in 24.5. The work-arounds that had been suggested didn't work for me.
I hadn't noticed anything up until very recently, Corrine, now that I'm checking reports from the public, there does seem to be some issues that need tracking down, especially with extensions, so it seems - there's a special topic for add-on bugs in PM 25: https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5435
I just logged into Outlook, I rarely use it now anyway, but I got in fine; my user agent override here is, I think, the current default for outlook.com: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:28.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/28.0 (Pale Moon)
Thank you. I've subscribed to the Compatibility Reports topic.

Corrine, I've been using Pale Moon on my Sony Vaio for some time now, and I like it (I also have Firefox and Explorer installed). However, as a rule, I avoid beta versions of everything. What did you mean by "
wider acceptance"? More users? Also, what is "
outlook.com/live.com"? I use Outlook, both on my Sony and on my Mac, yet don't understand its association with Pale Moon. What am I missing here?
I agree, John, since the computers you use are also for work, you don't want to run beta software.
Right now, Pale Moon is generally seen as a Firefox clone, even though it isn't. By outlook.com/live.com I was referring to webmail access rather than through the Outlook software. Many of us were getting the screen image as shown in the first post at Pale Moon forum • View topic - Please upgrade your browser on Outlook.com [Solved] (https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4104) when attempting to access our email at live.mail.com. This was because Microsoft did not recognize the user agent. With Pale Moon having its own "user agent" instead of using the Firefox user agent, there may be websites that won't recognize it and will think it is an outdated browser. Thus, my comment about wider acceptance of Pale Moon -- not only by the users but also by websites and tech journalists.
