Good/day everyone
At the moment I am using sunbelt (Keiro) Firewall.
The subscription will be due soon and I really don't want to renew.
I have been doing a bit of research into free firewalls.
I like what I have read about Comodo Firewall and am wondering if anyone here uses it.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Sorry have never come accross it but as you said it does seem tohave a good read up the only negative read i found was at
download.com (http://www.download.com/Comodo-Personal-Firewall/3640-10435_4-10474693.html)
If you deside not to use it then I would recommend you try
ZoneAlarm (http://www.download.com/3000-2092-10039884.html) as it is easy to use.

Hi GR@PH;<'S

Hi GR@PH;<'S
I have used zone alarm free before.
My problem is I uninstalled it through the add remove, so that i could try sunbelt (Keiro) Firewall.
I uninstalled Sunbelt after i tried it and went to reinstall Zone Alarm Free.
But I could not reinstall it. I got the warning that True Vector is running and I have to close them down in Services. But they are not listed, in (Windows Services). :sos:
That is why I'm using Sunbelt at the moment.
Now I'm sorry I tried any other Firewall as I liked Zone Alarm.
I went over to there forum to see how i could fix this, so i could reinstall Zone Alarm.
I am pretty stupid concerning computers and i just could not understand how to fix my problem. :beg:
Cheers pete :firefox:
Ok yes I'm gonna throw a plug here, but perhaps OneCare would be useful? Not free, but easy to use, and it's more than just a firewall. http://www.onecare.com and with that, I'll stop the plugging.

pete,
Try starting your PC in safe mode,
Safe mode is the Windows diagnostics mode. When you start the computer in Safe mode, only the specific components that are needed to run the operating system are loaded. Safe mode does not allow some functions, such as connection to the Internet. It also loads a standard video driver at a low resolution; therefore, your programs and the Windows desktop may look different than usual, In addition, the desktop icons may have moved to different locations on the desktop.
All Windows operating systems can be started in Safe mode.
(except Windows 3.1 and Windows NT )
see
How to start the computer in Safe mode (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406)
then see if you can remove the program you not want.
then after rebooting in to normal mode replace it with the one you want.
Just make sure that you download a fresh copy of ZoneAlarm (http://www.download.com/3000-2092-10039884.html)
GR@PH;<'S :ok:
Hi GR@PH;<'S
Thanks for the directions. Also your links.
I booted the computer into safe mode, and deleted what I could find relating to Zone Alarm.
Rebooted back into normal mode still no luck.
I happened to find this by accident: See link
http://nh3.nohold.net/noHoldCust25/Prod_1/Articles55646/CompleteUninstallNonNT.html (http://nh3.nohold.net/noHoldCust25/Prod_1/Articles55646/CompleteUninstallNonNT.html)
I followed the instructions from above link, but chickened out cause when I unchecked (b. Make sure you also UNcheck the box to "Hide Protected Operating System Files" if you have one. I got the following warning.
You have chosen to display protected operating system files (files labled System & Hidden) in Windows Explorer.
These files are required to start and run Windows. Deleting or editing them can make your computer inoperabl.
I feel if I do this with my luck i will stuff up my operating system.
So at this stage I am to nervous to try this. :gah:
All your help has been very much appriciated :gwave:
Cheers pete :firefox:
pete,
you could make a restore point then go and do as it says thenif things did not go as planed you can then always restore back to the point you had made.
GR@PH;<'S :breakkie:
pete try this ...
If you used the built-in uninstaller for ZoneAlarm, the TrueVector service was not disabled and removed. This can result in loss of network access. To prevent that service from causing the same problem in the future, follow the steps below.
To disable TrueVector at startup:
1. Click Start >Control Panel (Windows XP), or Start >Settings >Control Panel (all other versions of Windows).
2. Open the Services tool as described below:
(Classic View) Double-click Administrative Tools. Then, double-click Services.(Category View) Click Performance and Maintenance. Then, click Administrative Tools and double-click Services.
d. Double-click on the entry named TrueVector Internet Monitor.
e.Select Disable from the Startup Type drop-down menu.
f. Close the Services Control Panel.
To properly uninstall ZoneAlarm:
To correctly uninstall ZoneAlarm, use the Add and Remove Programs control panel. Also, for Windows NT, 2000, and XP, you must first disable the True Vector Service (Steps 1 and 2, below).
1. Click Start, then Run.
2. Type net stop "TrueVector Internet Monitor" just as it appears in the window below, then press OK.
3. Click Start >Control Panel (Windows XP), or Start >Settings >Control Panel (all other versions of Windows).
4. Click Add or Remove Programs.
5. Click on the entry for ZoneAlarm.
6. Click Change/Remove to uninstall the program.
7. Restart your system..

Glad to here that all is well .
QuoteI finally had the nerve, put in a restore point
I recommend that you make a restore point at least once a week
and definitely make one after any program install

I recently tried Commodo and liked it very much but there seems with my units always some slight be it small but little detriment that runs me back to KERIO every time.
This one was no exception and i really liked the features and capabilities but it snipped my internet line a few times at random and i had too much of that with ZA before.
A very good friend e-mailed this to me
decide for yourself 8)
