I've discussed this Compaq Laptop before. I'm currently just using it as a backup, and have been advised here to keep it updated. I fired it up to check for updates but I can't get on the interned. I'm getting messages that the I'm not connected to any networks and when I click to connect I get a message that Windows can't find any networks.
I went searching because I wanted to know the version of Windows running and found this thread

You've gone through the steps in that thread? The wireless light is on? The time on the computer is correct?
Does device manager show any problem with the wireless hardware?
Have you tried connecting wired?
I went into Device Mgr and everything that seems to be associated with connectivity seems to be working properly, unless there's something I'm unfamiliar with needs to be checked. I corrected the time b 4 I posted yesterday. I have no ability to connect wired. The WiFi light is on, but red.
When it is red/orange, that means the wireless is not on.
You can try this to see if you can turn it on and get it showing blue.
QuoteShut down the PC, remove the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Now hold the power button down for a good 30 seconds. Now re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the PC.
Now it could also be due to the fact that the wireless has died. Hardware dies and since this is an laptop, that could be the case.
An alternative would be to buy a USB wifi dongle and use that to connect.

If you give me the exact model of CQ60 (numbers and letters after this), I will see if I can find the HP wireless assistant. This worked for some to be able to turn the wireless on again.
