Post by: ky331 on July 06, 2015, 12:47:11 PM
This free Windows 10 eBook, titled Exploring Windows 10, will introduce to the features of the new operating system from Microsoft and help you learn it.

Learn how to operate the new Start Menu, Lock your computer, change your account picture, sign out, shut down your computer, restart it, or put it to sleep and how to quickly access the new Settings app.

The Work Smart Guide has easy-to-understand instructions on how to search your computer and the web, using Cortana, the new digital assistant and Edge browser.

Thanks for the links. I didn't download because it is a docx and I don't have Office installed on my desktop computer in 7.

I'll download it on the XP partition where I have office 2007 installed and save it as a pdf! Then I'll put it on a stick and move it.

I found another book on 10 and it does give a choice of several formats

While doing some searching I found another site. This one is geared more toward IT people but some of you are pretty technical so you might find an ebook or two on there to look at. Besides all it costs is the bandwidth to download a free book.

Just published today on the same MSDN blog that plodr linked above:  http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mssmallbiz/archive/2015/07/07/i-m-giving-away-millions-of-free-microsoft-ebooks-again-including-windows-10-windows-8-1-windows-8-windows-7-office-2013-office-365-sharepoint-2013-dynamics-crm-powershell-exchange-server-lync-2013-system-center-azure-clo.aspx (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mssmallbiz/archive/2015/07/07/i-m-giving-away-millions-of-free-microsoft-ebooks-again-including-windows-10-windows-8-1-windows-8-windows-7-office-2013-office-365-sharepoint-2013-dynamics-crm-powershell-exchange-server-lync-2013-system-center-azure-clo.aspx).

Windows 10 Primer, free pdf download
http://it-ebooks.info/book/5674/

I do like the it-ebooks.info site.
Earlier I downloaded two Android tablets for Dummies and it helped me a lot.
Of course now my tablet is Lollipop instead of KitKat so I need to find another guide.

Since plodr and I added additional eBooks to the mix beyond Windows 10, I  edited the subject of this thread.

Thank you, Corrine. That's an impressive list.

Thanks, plodr. That book looks interesting. However, I was unable to download it. Maybe I need to enable cookies?

This is the message that I keep getting:

"The page isn't redirecting properly. Pale Moon has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete. This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies."

It could be cookies/3rd party cookies disabled.

Disabling the SPY protocol might work:
Quote from: Sob__Open "about:config" (you just enter it like any other url), confirm that you know what you're doing (well... :)), enter "spdy" in search field to filter the list and then double-click the preference you want to change. Then try reloading the page.

It will disable SPDY protocol and will affect all servers using it. It's not strictly required, I've never heard about SPDY-only webserver, so it should not break anything. On the other hand, SPDY is supposed to be slightly faster, although you probably won't notice the difference.

The best would of course be if it happened to developer too and he could debug it, but he says it works for him...
