Post by: johnson55 on January 25, 2016, 08:24:04 PM
Hi,

I got an  android tablet today a10.1" inch Google Android 4.4 KitKat 32G Quad-Core WIFI Tablet PC HDMI Bluetooth.I didn't get any direction with it. I got 3 cords.one thats charging now.The other one I think is
for charging from the computer. I found on right side their is a power button. That's about all I know.
I need some help to find sme directions on to set it up out of the box and how to use it. I know their
are about 100 different types of tablets so where is my exact tablet information?
I never looked at one before and in the dark
Would appreciate any help.

Have a smart phone or digital camera? If so, take pictures of the 3 cords and the back and front of the tablet.

Did it come in a box? If so find a model number and post that too.

Plodr,
I've got the cords figured out.
The front has a camera lense on the upper right
camera lense on the back on same side.

About all it says on back is 5 vand host. Nothind on the box
at all. It came fron india I think.
Pictures wouldn't help much.

Sorry that is too vague for me to attempt to guess what you have.
QuoteThe front has a camera lense on the upper right
camera lense on the back on same side.
That is true for about 99% of the current tablets.

You'd be surprised at how a picture can help. Power button appearance. Where a speaker is located and some letters or numbers almost invisible on the back.

I determined last year the brand and model of unknown tablet for someone on another forum and was able to find a manual for him online.

I took some pictures of the android tablet .I couldn't attach them to your site.
From my computer. Maybe I need to go to a picture host like Photobucket. They
happen to be down now. Any ideas how to get the pictures there?

What format are the pictures in?  The following file types can be attached by clicking on the "Attachments and other options" button below the reply window:  txt, doc, docx, pdf, bat, ask, reg, gif, jpg, png, zip

The very first picture you posted was too fuzzy for me to see much.
Of the last 3, the most useful is the one showing the writing on the back. I downloaded it, in the hopes that I could rotate 90° to read the writing better. Unfortunately when I downloaded it, I got a tiny image that I could not enlarge.

Based on my "senior" eyes, I think I see power, headset, USB, HDMI, Reset, DC-5V and TFcard. Is that correct?

Along the side, I have no idea what the U near the camera lens is. The arrows indicate Volume up and volume down.

Further down are two sort of white lines. Is there any writing or are these the slits for the speakers?

1. What does the screen show when you turn it on before android loads?
2. After loading and unlocking, tap settings, then scroll down to System and tap About. What does it say under Model number and Android version?

Thanks Plodr for your time,I'm a novice.
1st turn on  shows locked .I unlock swipe down from right and get
Settings and tap devices then I get system, but tapping on doesn't
do anything.
Tht U button after I unlock it don't always show the same thing. It sometimes shows
my name and all contacts, sometimes settings.
On the advertisement it says it is a generic item.
The 2 slots maybe are speakers.Haven't tried that yet.

Something normally shows even before the lock screen appears. Does your device remain black until the desktop loads and the lock screen?

Don't tap on system.
Under Settings I have Wifi, Bluetooth, Data usage and more.

Then I have a heading Device.
Under that I have Easy mode, display, sound and notification, Storage, Battery, Apps, Power Management, Users and ASUS customized settings (which would not appear on a non-ASUS tablet).

Next a heading Personel
with 6 things to tap on.

The last heading is System.
Date & Time, Accessibility, Printing, ZenUI APP updates (again this would not appear on non-ASUS tablets), Developer options and About.
Tap on About.

If you don't have About, tell me what choices you have under the System heading.

Under settings I have-
wireless network
bluetooth
data usage
more
device
sound
display
storage
battery
Under more I have airplane mode
ethernet
VPN
mobile network
I don't seem to have system-
The 1st thing that comes on when I hit the power  is unlock & lock
with the menu or overflow button at bottom of page

Okay, describe the overflow button/icon. I'm not at all familiar with that. If I can search for something on that, I may be able to narrow down the devices. Check the attachment. Is that what you see?

I tried searching for tablets with hdmi ports. Mine doesn't have one and neither did the other tablet I bought and returned in 2014.
I've managed to eliminate some brands because those devices have a logo emblazoned on the back of the tablet. But there are so many choices to look at.

As far as the choices under system, try tapping device. That might give us some information like a model, name or version of Android.

As you can tell, there is no "standard" for tablet menus, like in Windows.

I want to see what version of Android it is running. If it is KitKat, I can give you 2 books in pdf that helped me maneuver around. Not everything applies but most of it did and allowed me to learn a lot about the Android OS.

It says MID android on the box it came in ,that's it.
When I swipe to unlock tablet I get on that page-
WiFi,bluetooth,location,refresh and settings icons.below that
on same page I got chroome google, notepad,an india browser, gmail and
the menu below that, the circle with 6 dots.that menu would take me to the apps drawer.
below that on same page is the 3 icons back, home and recent.
The  books might be good.
Thanks again for the help.

The 7" tablets they show have really old Android 1.6 and 2.2.

The 8" tablets have Android 2.2.

The 10" tablet has Android 2.2.

I know nothing about 2.2, aka Froyo. Let me do some looking for any guides.

Since I can't add to my previous post, let me add, when you unlock the tablet, tap on Settings then Device. What do you get?

Does the box look like this?

Great! You have KitKat (Android v 4.3, 4.4 varieties) which is a huge relief.

I'm going to send you a personal message at this forum. In it I will have 2 links for KitKat books.

I found it easiest to download the book to my computer. I turned on the tablet and as I read a few pages in the book from the computer screen, I tried to do things on my tablet.

I also have two note cards with steps on how to do some things that I don't do very often and would forget until the next time I needed to it.

The a33 processor is associated with a lot of AllWinner brand tablets but I know you don't have an AllWinner.

I'm having trouble locating anything on a MID model #411 but I'll keep looking.

johnson55, you are more than welcome.

When I got my tablet, I needed guidance because it was so different from anything I ever used. And I started with computers in the DOS days and use several different flavors of linux too. Probably if I owned a smart phone, I would have known a bit more. It's never too late to learn something new!

Have fun with it and if you have tablet/Kit Kat questions, ask.
