With Chrome, which I know is up to date, I developed a problem in the past couple of days that I have not had before.
If I "X" out of Chrome and then later click on the Chrome icon in my task bar, or from my desk top, to access it again, I see 3 pop ups from extensions -- Remove All Politics, Adobe Acrobat, and Ublock Origin, all crash and as fast as the notifications pop up that they crashed that is how fast they disappear, and I was left with a totally black screen (whether in regular mode or in the in-cognitio mode).
Please see my attached print screen of how my screen looks right before the 3 pop ups disappear and I have a totally black screen. It was quickly taken while I was in Chrome's in-cognito mode.
I do turn off my computer at night and back on in the morning. When I turn my computer back on the next day, then Chrome browser returns as normal.
I do not know what could have happened to cause this issue that makes it quite interruptive for me to use Chrome if I log out and back on to it during the day as before this interruptive issue occured.
I use a Windows 7 Desktop computer. I hope to hear from someone so I can get this issue corrected. Thank you.

Are those the only 3 extensions you use? Or do you have more and they don't crash?
What security program do you use? I note F-Secure cause similar problems in the past as seen here. (https://community.f-secure.com/t5/Protection/chrome-extensions-crash/td-p/90168)
You might try uninstalling those add-ons and see what happens. If okay, add them back one at a time.
Totally uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome might be another alternative.
Hi, Linda. Digerati and I were responding at the same time. After following his suggestions, see if the following helps.
My preferred browsers are Pale Moon and Microsoft Edge. Since I don't use Google Chrome so had to do some research. It appears that this is an issue that has been going on with Chrome on and off over the years. From what I found, turning off hardware acceleration solved the problem.
Follow these steps to turn off hardware acceleration:
- Open Chrome
- Enter chrome://settings into the address bar
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the "advanced settings" link
- More options will appear. Scroll down again to the bottom of the page
- Under the "System" heading there will be an option called "Use hardware acceleration when available". Remove the tick from the checkbox.
- The words "requires Chrome restart" will appear. Click on the "restart" link
- Enter chrome://gpu into the address bar
All of the items under the "Graphics Feature Status" heading should now show as having hardware acceleration disabled.

Digerati, I have an "advanced font settings" that I don't use, but I think it must be an extension but no it doesn't crash. I use ESETNOD 32.

I haven't closed out of Chrome yet as I wanted to write ASAP, but will try it later and see what happens. But, I wanted to write and let you know how much I appreciate your replies and if the turning off the hardware acceleration doesn't work, I'll have take the additional steps.

I just saw your 'fingers crossed' message, and so I got up my nerve to close out of Chrome and reopen it and your finger crossing worked (LOL). My goodness I "x" out of Chrome to close it; and then clicked on the icon for Chrome in the task bar and it came right back on! Gosh, I would never have guessed something like a hardware accelerator would make such a difference!

I am glad that worked. What I find odd is this problem seems to have just surfaced. I assume you did not recently changes those HW accelerator settings.

Thank you both for your help. Digerati, as far as I know I didn't change the settings, but I certainly will be able now to keep this in mind for the future.
I used to have trouble with Firefox crashing and thanks to you, Corrine, learned about Pale Moon. I have Pale Moon on my computer (Windows 7) and while it is not my default browser, I am so glad that I have it as my back up browser.
