Title: Cult software Classic Shell to close down
Post by: ky331 on December 06, 2017, 01:03:45 PM
Cult software Classic Shell has... helped Windows users to customize their experience. It offers enhancements to Windows design and functionality and is well-known to the dedicated users who swear by the program.

The original announcement from the developer is here: http://www.classicshell.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8147

I know this is sad news for the millions of Classic Shell users. This is not good for those of us who use Start8 or Start10 (http://www.landzdown.com/%5Burl=http://www.stardock.com/products/start10/)]Start10 either because competition drives innovation and brings more options for consumers. With Start10's chief competition shutting down, it will mean fewer options for consumers, and perhaps a stagnation of Start10's development that are needed keep it current with the changes in Windows Ivo talks about.

Wait and see.

Didn't it turn out that just today someone at another forum asked me about something to make Windows 8 more like Windows 7!  I explained that there would be no further development and provided a link to the main website as well as to Classic Start 8.

Yeah, I went out to dinner with some old Air Force buddies last night and one said he just bought a new W10 computer and was having problems getting used to the new UI. So I had to relay the same story - and pointed him to Start10.
