Title: Fill pdf forms
Post by: DR M on March 23, 2018, 08:16:43 PM
Hello.  :)

I have to fill some pdf forms, and I would like to ask if there is a way to do this, without using Adobe Acrobat software.

PDF-XChange Viewer can deal with "fillable" pdf forms. It even has a few tools that let you work with forms that weren't designed to be fillable.

Free at:  https://www.tracker-software.com/product/pdf-xchange-viewer

It may not be a long term "free" solution. It's no longer being "developed". I can't speak from experience on the replacement, but you could try PDF-XChange Editor, and see if it meets your needs.

Foxit Reader is excellent. I use it on a regular basis

Panos,

I will back Pete up on PDF-XChange Editor.  I have both PDF-XChange Viewer 2.5.322.8 (the last version before development ceased) and it is still functional for viewing and fillable forms, and light editing.  PDF-XChange Editor (currently at version 7.0.324.3) was and is billed as the successor to the viewer with many more features.  Both of these are entirely free (still) but the editor does have some premium functions that you have to pay for.  If you click through the list of links at the bottom of the editor page at Pete's link the features that are free will be indicated.  For a free product it seems to have a lot of capabilities.

Do not download the "Plus" version as the "plus" features have to be paid for; the basic version should be sufficient for your purposes.

Also do not get confused about the various "prices" that are posted.  The download is a fully functioning FREE version.  It is only if you want the features that are not free (the ones that I called "premium" above) that you have to pay.  Otherwise all of the other features are free.

Another possible product is the PDFill PDF Editor 14.0.2 (info " http://pdfill.com/free_pdf_editor.html ", download " http://pdfill.com/download.html ".  Here the product to get would be the basic version.  Also it comes bundled with two other valuable pdf-related products:  one is a pdf writer which allows one to print (or convert) virtually any page into a pdf document; the other is a set of pdf tools that allows various manipulations of pdf files.  I have not worked much with the editor but I have used the writer and the tools fairly often.

There are other products that are available but these two are packed with potentially useful features all for FREE.

Thank you, Gentlemen.

I downloaded both PDF-XChange Editor and Foxit Reader and I'm exploring their features now. Trucker updater is something that was downloaded with PDF-XChange Editor and cannot be uninstalled via Control Panel. Is it something needed?

Assuming you mean Tracker, that's because PDF-XChange Editor is a Tracker Software Products program.  If you wish to disable it, here are the instructions:  https://www.tracker-software.com/knowledgebase/470-How-do-I-disable-the-Tracker-Updater

Yes, I meant Tracker.  :)

What does this mean (Tracker Software Products program)?

Thank you.

The PDF program is theirs, the updater is theirs.  Tracker Software is responsible for both of them.  Short version, that updater you asked about came with the download of the PDF program. It isn't essential that you let it run, but it really isn't a problem if you do.

Thanks. After all, filling pdf forms is easier than I thought.
