Title: Problem with folders
Post by: DR M on June 07, 2018, 12:30:30 PM
... Another problem here from me... And it's very very annoying!

Every time I'm trying to make something with a folder, I get the message that the action cannot be completed, as the folder is opened in another program. The problem is fixed, only with a restart, but: only one action can be done after a restart!

E.g.

I have two files and I want to move them in a folder. I get the message above. I restart the computer, and then, one of the two files gets into the folder. I'm trying to move the other one, I get the message. I restart the computer, and the second folder moves into the folder. I'm trying to rename the folder, I get the message! I restart the computer, and I can rename the folder!

I tried several things before decide to write about it here (http://www.thewindowsclub.com/action-cant-be-completed-because-file-is-open), but nothing seems to fix the problem! I noticed this issue a couple of months ago, but I didn't pay attention. Now I see that it's really a problem... Any suggestions?

So you are trying to move folders into folders?

If you have a file from the first folder open, it will not let you move that folder.

Moving files and folders, renaming a folder, deleting a folder, restoring a folder... Any action including a folder. Of course every file of any folder is closed, and nothing is opened in another program... I restart the computer, make ONLY ONE action (e.g. renaming the folder) and then I can't move it in another location. I have to restart again. It's probably an old problem (I remember it somewhere in April, perhaps in March), but then I didn't pay attention. Now I have many important files and folders that need tiding and I can't do what I want.

Panos, did you also read the related article at TWC:  Action cannot be completed because the file is open in COM Surrogate (http://www.thewindowsclub.com/action-cannot-completed-file-open-com-surrogate)?  From that article, it appears that even though the file is not open, the process may still be working in the background.

QuoteAlso, try this. Open Task Manager > Under the Details tab, locate dllhost.exe process, right-click on it and select End task. Now see if you can do what you wanted to do.

That (source from Corrine's post above) solved the problem!!! So simple! Thank you!  :)
