I used several Firefox add ons, which helped me to download from Youtube files in different format, e.g. mp4 and mp3. I found that the most functional were two: Download flash and video, and mp3 Youtube podcaster. Unfortunately they don't work anymore. To do my job I started using this page (https://www.onlinevideoconverter.com/mp3-converter), which has the possibility to convert the Youtube videos to the format you like. Today, I used this page to downoad an mp3. I noticed that it warned me to disable the Ad-blocker, and I did. Many advertisements appeared (you are a winner ..., play this game etc.), but I just entered the video address and proceeded to convert to the mp3, ignoring MBAM warning about a fraud page and for malvertising.
Questions:
1. It's obvious that the page is a trap for fraud and malware dowload. But this is related to the advertisements, right?
2. Is there any good alternative to the add ons I mentioned above for downloading from Youtube in mp3 and mp4?
Hi DR M
I don't know anything about the site you are linking to, but I know a very great alternative software. I make use of the software "Any Video Converter Ultimate"
but you only need the free version of the software.
You can read about it and download the freeware here:

Hi, Frands.
I used the free version of this product some years ago, but then it was related to malware. Also, my antivirus was giving me warnings, so I decided to remove it. Since then, I didn't install any program for this action, as I found those add ons which were very helpful.

Hmm, sounds a bit weird to me. I have not used the free one. Maybe it comes with some addons that is no good. I just have the paid version and I have never had any problems at all. I don't know what version of window you make use of, but if win win 8,8.1 or 10 there is some apps over at Microsoft Store.
I just went through this a few weeks ago. The addon I'm using in Palemoon and the "old" Firefox didn't seem to work.
I used a standalone on another computer and that too stopped working.
Let me test the two different ones I have before I give you any specific programs. Note: I do not turn off my real time protection malwarebytes when I download.
If all I can download is an mp4 file and I want audio (mp3), I use a free audio extractor to "convert" from mp4 to mp3.
Palemoon addon: Download YouTube Videos as mp4 worked
It adds a download button under the YouTube video and when I click it, I get a choice of 2 resolutions. I usually pick the lower because I'm not interested in the video quality.
Pazera portable audio extractor was able to scrape the audio out of the video
I have the xul Palemoon/olf FF addon archived because if I can't get it, I can reinstall it.
I also have the Pazera portable version archived.
QuotePalemoon addon: Download YouTube Videos as mp4 worked
Used this one in Palemoon's early days. What about this one for palemoon:http://addons.palemoon.org/addon/complete-yt-saver/ (http://addons.palemoon.org/addon/complete-yt-saver/)
Since the one I have worked for years, I haven't bothered trying a 2nd addon.
Standalone program: 4K Video Downloader.
I just tested this on another computer in Firefox ESR v 60.2.2
I arrived at that program from following links on a page that mentioned 5 good ones. I was using YTD Video downloader and that wasn't working. It had worked previously. Both are free. You will see an ad to consider buying the pro version.
Thanks, plodr and Frands! I will try them. I prefer to use an add on instead of a program, but I'll see what is best for me.
By the way, what's FFmpeg that I have to download if I use the complete YT saver?

If you prefer addons then this is the addon for the new FF
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/easy-youtube-video-download/
though I don't know if I've used it very often. I don't download that many YouTube videos.

Thanks, plodr. I tried many add ons last night. Actually, ant video downloader has the features I want. But ... I can't see it's button to use it.
--> I'm looking for add ons that work with PM. I usually used mp3 from Youtube, rather than mp4 for my job. It's not something I need urgently now, but I would like to have this opportunity.
Sorry, Dr. M, I haven't tried ant video downloader and I don't use Windows 10
I know this thread is old, but the subject is always recent (at least for me :) ).
I found an app from the Microsoft Store, which can do the job perfectly! It can convert mp4 to mp3, not only using videos stored in the computer, but from Youtube as well. So, I recommend it. :)
My Mp4 to Mp3 Converter
Thank you for that information...I installed this program @DR M. (My Mp4 to Mp3 Converter) 8)

Actually it is not a program but an app from the Store. Corrine could explain to us the difference between programs and apps. :)
Have in mind that this app can produce sound from videos. That's why Mp4 to Mp3. It can't download the actual video.
Thank you .. Does this explain the difference? ::)
Program -: A computer program is set of instructions that can be executed on a computer.Software can be made up of more than one program. All-encompassing term that is often used in contrast to hardware (the tangible parts of a computer)
Application -:
An application is software that directly helps a user perform tasks. Application is a possibly a collection of coordinating program instances to solve a user's purpose.
A program or group of programs that is designed for the end user. Application software (an application) is a set of computer programs designed to permit the user to perform a group of coordinated functions, tasks, or activities. Application software cannot run on itself but is dependent on system software to execute
"All applications are programs, but a program is not necessarily an application. For example, there are always lots of programs running on the background of an operating system, but since they weren't developed for the end-user, they are not applications. On the other hand, Windows Media Player and Firefox, for example, are applications. They have a Graphical User Interface."
Difference between computer program & applications—
1. Software is an all-encompassing term for computer data while an application is a type of software that does a certain task
2. Applications are executable while software may or may not be executable
3. Applications are often operating system specific while software are not necessarily so
4. Applications usually need user interaction to function while software does not necessarily have to
OR/AND
Conceptually, no difference. We can even say an Operating System(OS) is a computer program. But when it comes to normal usage, a program's scope is one single task and an application's scope is multiple tasks put together(a project kind).
A more recent description rather than one from 2015, from Difference Between an App and a Program in Windows 10: GT Explains (https://www.guidingtech.com/difference-between-app-program-windows/):
QuoteAn app, on the other hand, is a single file that you download and install on your computer. You don't need a separate uninstaller to remove an app, unlike programs. A program is a set of instructions that tells the computer what it must do. These instructions are delivered to the computer one at a time.[/url]
