Title: Forum questions
Post by: Ripley on March 05, 2006, 02:08:03 AM
Didn't know where to post this, but on our main index page is "Users Online"

Sometimes there is (1 hidden.)

Why?
How do they get hidden?
And why would they want to hide?

Also it counts the number of Guests and the number of Members online at the time.  And one time the total of those 2 categories was 46 people at the forum.  But the "Most Online" is 25 or 26 or something.

Not pressing questions I know...just curious.

As for the hidden ones.  They are the ones who have set it up in their profile or during the log in to be logged in as invisible thus hidden.

Some who are admins or mods who might get bombarded with pm's when they arrive in the room, might chose this option, just so they can check out the forums in peace.

I have known some ppl who want to be invisible because they don't want others to know just how often they are online.  hehehehe

It can be for many reason...those are just a couple.

It's a setting in your profile, click here:

http://www.landzdown.com/index.php?action=profile;u=133;sa=account

'Show others your online staus' - checked means you aren't hidden, unchecked means you are hidden to everyone but the admins of the forum.

As to the member count, the most online is 25, but that is members & it is the most online at ONCE. It doesn't take into account the 'Users Online Today' at the bottom, nor does it count guests. (As far as I know but if it does, the counter is screwed ;))

We also don't include the "bots" (spiders) in the online count as many sites do, because we feel it skews the true stats of the site.  Check the online count of many sites and see the number of "guests".  At LzD, we've had 25 spiders online at a time so imagine how many bots would be needed to index huge sites like CastleCops.

OK, I'm incognito now...slinking around the forum.

Can I post while I'm in stealth mode?  Hummmm...let's try it out!

Well, learning how the forum works anyway.  Can't see any need for me to use "hidden."  But you first have to show up and be logged in to go to your profile and then "hide."  I don't see an "invisible" option at log in.
I like seeing whose been online, or whose online at the time I am, and how many.

Corrine, remember when i thought I was a spider over at FreedomList cuz I wasn't getting counted?

I guess we all have to start somewhere, learning the forum "ropes."

Thnx for the enlightenment people.

Hey Graph,

I understand what I need to do to change the links, but how do I get to the links to do this?

ripley,
Quotebut how do I get to the links to do this
when you go to view your picture that you have uploaded say to Yoxio.
If you double click on the image you want it will open in a new window then all you got to do is copy the URL and paste it in to the ["img][/img"] tabs (Note used "" again for showing purpose's)

Where do I go to view the picture, where it's already posted in a thread?  Or at Yoxio?

I went to Yoxio and when I dbl clk on a picture I get options like this:
QuoteHere's the BB code you need to insert your image into a forum:
Is this where I change it?

When I dbl clk on an image I've posted in a LzD thread, it gives me the URL, in a new window, but where do I put the img tabs to change it?

Sorry, but I can't get my brain around this.

you can click on the image tab or you can tupe them in either way it is up to you how you do it but if you use the image tab just paste the URL you have in to them or type ["img] & [/img"]
ie: ["img]http://img1.yoxio.com/img/230401.jpg[/img"] witch will put ---> (https://www.landzdown.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg1.yoxio.com%2Fimg%2F230401.jpg&hash=68e7a7782d6a6aece4b446e181e1b3e5ca25ed9e)

Ripley, some time ago, Curt and I prepared a help thread at Freedomlist.  Although it was for that site, some of the examples there may be helpful.  See:  http://www.freedomlist.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10110&sid=e8297eb928d5bf5aaf24f25732644df6

Thnx Corrine.  Been there done that, while I was visiting FL and now again.  Doesn't help me any.

Graph,

OK, so I see you found my dbl post.  :hysterical:

I KNEW you'd jump all over that new key!  :smash:

But you can't ignore me, as I'm still posting away on this concept I can't figure out.  :smash:

I'm going to back up.  I know the BBCode to post pix/smileys.  What I've found out is that I have posted ALL pix/smileys w/ img tags AND url tags which makes them all clickable.  :stupid:  :smash:

So I'm trying to make them unclickable...but I can't find the orginal BBCode that links each pix I've posted.
When I dbl clk on an image I've posted, the url is in my browswer address bar and that's the only place I see it.
When I go to a thread where I've posted, choose quote, I see the BBCode & my pix link info and can remove the url tabs, but then I've dbl posted it, not changed it.
Once again, do the changes take place at my hosting website Yoxio, or here?

Please refrain from picking this up and  :Win73: me even tho I know you want to!

ripley,
ok now lets see witch smilies is it  that you can not do post them all here and we will help you sort them out.

the other thing is it does not mater that they are linked as they do only seem to lnk back to them selves or at leased Jonesy did.

Example, here's what I used to post the ignore key smiley:

#1 [url"=http://img1.yoxio.com/view/229930.htm][img"]http://img1.yoxio.com/img/229930.gif[/img"][/url"]

I now know I should have used this:

#2 [img"]http://img1.yoxio.com/img/229930.gif[/img"]

But I can't figure out how to get to #1 string of info, to change it to #2.

Is this making any sense?

I go to the lame Press Any Key thread that I posted the ignore key smiley into, but the only time I see that #1 string of info is when I dbl clk on the ignore key smiley, and some of that #1 info is in my broswer address window.

if you mean on at LandzDown them do not worry about it.

do you copy the links to say Notepad/or word as if you did that you could put the ["img] & the ["/img] to them as you go or you could just keep a list of the URL's with a brief note of the smilie
ie: Welcome 2 LzD = http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/969/lzdwelcome12ef.gif = (https://www.landzdown.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg233.imageshack.us%2Fimg233%2F969%2Flzdwelcome12ef.gif&hash=e0c14b4ac87c6b693f3cf93da25b7ffd974a9b4a)

OK, I'll give up and not try to change those clickables at LzD to unclickables.  That's what I thought I could clean up.  But since they only link back to the image at the hosting website, I guess it's no biggy.

But I do keep my smiley link urls in a notepad...I bet yours is 20,000 pages long!

Ok, just saw your second post while I was posting this, and I see you did your magic again.  :thanks:

Just so you know tho...there's more of them.

I was thinking I could clean up my own mess.  If you aren't bothered by the clickables, then I won't be either.  But if there is a way, that I'm just not understanding, then I would be more than happy to take care of it.
Of course, I know you are thinking it would be less time to do it yourself...than try to get ripley to understand it!  :hysterical:

From now on, I will post unclickable smileys.

Oh, so much to learn and so little time!

On my TO DO list

While I was in the smiley fiasco yesterday, I got some alert that the BSOD was coming or about to arrive or something, so in the middle of all that I was googling ATWPKT2.sys & ATWPKT2.vxd files, looking for them, and re-naming them.

Thnx for the patience.

I'm not sure I'm understanding this thread, and probably should not intrude.  But from experience riplely, you and I are often thinking along similar processes, and even occassionally are working on the same problem, coincidentally.  So hopefully these comments will add to your understanding, rather than confuse you more.  And if I'm just restating the obvious, please feel free to  :smash:  bonk me on the head!

It sounds like you are wanting to open "old" messages for editing, to delete the hyperlink which you had inadvertently attached to images...yes??  My understanding is that regular members do not have the ability to edit, or even to delete their own messages (here at LzD).  Well, except for the first few moments after posting a message.  Immediately after you post a message, you will notice the word "Modify" just below the word "Quote" (or very near, if not under) in the upper right corner of the newly posted message.  I haven't specifically timed how long it's available, but it seems not to be more than a minute or 2 after posting.  If something drastically needs editing or deleting, after that time, we have to ask a moderator or admin to do it.

Does this help?  Remember, please feel free to  :smash:, if I'm off-base!  LOL!  (https://www.landzdown.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg221.imageshack.us%2Fimg221%2F7151%2Fblinkgrin8oi.gif&hash=a696f9becafbc6ddda61b08d84841453db37cfd2)

But since you bring it up, yeah, you're right, I was trying to edit old posts, just smileys mind you, and thought there was a way to do it at my end.
We're all glad I'm over THAT issue.

In case anyone is wondering why LzD is set up without an edit feature, Corrine has explained:
QuoteBecause it causes potential problems if a poster returns and edits a logfile after the analyst has started working on it.

Can you believe it after as long as I've been a member here...I still have forum questions?

If there is a Topic that is "Pinned"  "Stickied", w/ the Stick Pin icon, should we be replying in that thread any more?  Or start a new Topic?

There are 2 of these "Pinned" threads that I have comments on.  One has a Padlock icon on it.  Is that a clue to me?

And another, it is my preference that if ppl want to contact me, outside forum posting, they have the option of PM online or PM offline.  Email directly would not be my preference unless I've provided someone w/ my addy.
In My Profile, I have choosen "Hide email to the public," and yet it appears this option is available as an icon under my avatar.  How do I do this different?

As long as you have set the option to be hidden then your E-Mail addie will be hidden from all but they can still send you an E-Mail via clicking on that Icon although they would not be able to see your Addie.
